Coral Dragon
When I first read this card’s effect at the
beginning of the year, I turned to my friend and we
both said “water” at the same time. Any water
monster that discards is on the radar of
knowledgeable players, and this monster is no
slouch. It has a great generic ability, doesn’t need
specific materials, and has a terrific replacement
draw effect. But when I finally play-tested it, I
realized it’s actually quite difficult to synchro
summon a level 6 monster in mermail/atlantean decks
of pretty much any kind. Kind of a bummer, but that
doesn’t mean the situation can’t change in the
future.
However, that hardly takes away from Coral Dragon’s
immense presence. My favorite place for him right
now is in zombies. One combo involves a set
Scapeghost and any level 4 monster (preferably
Goblin Zombie.) Flip the ghost, synchro into Formula
and draw, summon Goblin, synchro into coral, search
for Mezuki, dump it for Coral’s effect, synchro into
Trishula, draw for Coral and pop for Trish. It’s a
net 4 in card advantage and sets up a lot of future
plays. And this is just one example of places where
Coral Dragon can make an impact. Don’t get me
started on plant decks.
The fact that Coral Dragon is a tuner is what makes
him unique, but don’t let that fool you. Konami
rarely releases generic cards anymore, but this is a
big one that will see regular play in synchro-based
decks for many years and will be the first option
for any deck that can quickly make level 6. Goyo
who? Summoning Coral Dragon is a joy.

If you ever had hopes of Brionac coming back,
this card feels more like a card that says "Fat
chance" to that actually happening!
Coral Dragon is a solid monster, Level 6, with 2400
ATK, so in this regards it "Ticks" all of the boxes
for Summoning accessibility (Lvl 6) and ATK power.
Luckily, Coral Dragon was slapped with a "Once per
turn" clause to its effect, but also unlike Brionac,
is only able to Target your opponent's cards AND
destroys rather than "Bounces", making any way to
break this non existent, or at least from what I can
tell currently!
Possibly the most useful part of Coral Dragon's
effect may actually come for Decks that would use
Coral Dragon as a stepping stone towards creating
Shooting Quasar Dragon or with Decks that require
removal ability but cannot really afford to lose
advantage. Well, that is of course as long as this
"SYNCHRO SUMMONED" card is sent from the field to
the Graveyard... I bolden the previous words due to
the fact that it important to remember that unless
Coral Dragon is on the field because it was Synchro
Summoned, you will not get to draw any cards when
its sent to the Graveyard.
Rating: 3.75 An actually balanced Brionac.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Level 6 Synchro monsters
have fallen off the map since Xyzs showed up, but
Coral Dragon is a card that could see some casual
play or even find its way into a deck.
Standard ways of Synchro
Summoning, alongside standard Level 6 ATK, Coral
Dragon allows for a 1-for-1 destruction via discard.
You can plus off your discard cost if you have stuff
that works in the graveyard, or are setting up
resurrecting monsters from the grave or Special
Summoning from the hand like DAD.
Coral Dragon gets sent to
the grave from the field you will get a free draw
for your trouble. Atlantian and Fabled decks can
make the best use of this card, as they work the
best with cost effects and have a range of Tuner
monsters. It should also be mentioned that Coral
Dragon itself is a Tuner and at Level 6 can give you
the option to go pretty high up the scale for
Synchro monsters.

As we continue Synchro Extreme support week, we
come to Coral Dragon. It's a Level 6 Water
Dragon-type Synchro Tuner monster with 2400 Atk and
500 Def. Those stats aren't bad for Level 6. Tuner
Synchro gives it many many combo options. And its
effects give it even more options.
Coral Dragon's first effect costs a discard from the
hand to target and destroy one opponent's card once
per turn. Being versatile is great. The discard
isn't too bad because a Synchro heavy deck will
probably send a card to the grave to float back out.
The final pro in the column is that Coral Dragon
draws a card when it's sent to the grave after being
successfully Synchro Summoned. Multiple Coral
Dragons would still only Draw one card, but the
first effect can destroy multiple cards per Coral
Dragon effect on the field. If it fits in the Extra
Deck, run it. A Synchro Ladder rung that plusses is
worth the space.
Score: 4/5 Replace a beater Level 6 with this.
Art: 3/5 Looks more Aqua than Dragon to me.

Coral Dragon, such a simple name for a
magnificently beautiful card. This is a
Synchro, Level 6, and a Water, Dragon type Monster,
also a Tuner, with 2400 attack and 500 defense, who
is Synchro Summoned generically with a Tuner, and
one or more non-Tuner Monsters. Once a turn,
by discarding a card, you can destroy one card your
opponent controls. I'm a fan of 1-for-1
effects like this, and it's open to any card of your
opponent's so that only makes this effect better.
If this card was Synchro Summoned and sent to the
Graveyard, you Draw a card. That's good too,
it probably only takes you two cards to Synchro this
anyway, so you're getting one back, so long as it
isn't removed. I wouldn't fault this being in
a Water or Dragon Deck, or even just a generic
addition to your Extra Deck.
