Ties of the Brethren
- #LDK2-ENYxxxPay 2000 LP, then target 1 Level 4 or lower monster you control; for the rest of this turn after this card resolves, you cannot Special Summon monsters, also Special Summon 2 monsters from your Deck with the same Type, Attribute, and Level as that monster, but with different names from each other and that monster. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this card.

Ties of
the Brethren
So, what usually wins when an
outstanding effect comes across a crippling cost?
Usually the cost. In this case, cost is the current
winner in the fight over Ties of the Brethren, a
spell card that at first glance appears to be
something that should find a place somewhere, right?
But in today’s fast game, no battle and no special
summoning spells doom.
Where could this spell be used
right now? Obviously the requirement is a theme with
many low level monsters that have the same level and
attribute. My first thoughts go to Yosenju, where
special summoning isn’t a big deal. I’ve seen it
teched in the deck. Others that come to mind are
Burning Abyss, Phantom Knight, Harpy, Zombies (which
unfortunately have recently taken on non-earth and
non-dark attributes), Gadgets and in the OCG, ABC
and the new Magnet Warriors. And for each of these
possibilities, there’s always a catch that makes you
forgo adding the spell card. For gadgets, it’s
unfortunate that the new gold and silver gadgets
aren’t earth type. For Burning Abyss and Phantom
Knight, what’s the point if you can’t special summon
afterwards? The list goes on.
However, there is something to
this card that can’t be avoided. Special summoning
two monsters from the deck is no joke. I think this
card could definitely be abused one day. All it
needs is a theme with the right requirements in a
passive role. A theme that doesn’t need to special
summon a whole lot, like Yosenju, but also can plus
off of the summons, like getting deck searchers
along the lines of Gadgets. This will probably come
along one day.

•
It searches, thins the deck and provides the
player 2 cards for the price of 1.
•
You can bring out defensive monsters,
offensive monsters, searcher monster and monsters
with removal effects.
•
It can give you anything you need based on
the situation, but you'll likely need a specific
gameplan in mind to capitalize on this card.
•
This can help many different themes such as
Pendulums, Gadgets, Stun, Majespecters, Bujins
•
Since the effect is broad (allowing any
Level/Type/Attribute) it can help countless decks be
faster and more consistent.
•
Battle Phase restriction is completely fair,
though it does take away your opportunity to futher
improve field advantage.
•
Special Summoning restriction prevents broken
XYZ plays, but even decks like B.A. would enjoy more
floaters on board.
•
While paying 1000 for each monster you get is
a great deal, the life point cost prevents you from
using other cards with life point costs.
•
So, overall, it's a very powerful card with
firm (but fair) restrictions.

Ties of the Brethren is a Normal Spell Card that
should be arriving in the TCG soon. It has costs and
restrictions, but it can also deliver huge
advantages. For 2000 Life Points and having a Level
4 or lower monster that you can target on your side
of the field, Ties of the Brethren Special Summons 2
monsters with the same Level, Type, and Attribute,
as the targeted monster, all with different names.
Then there is no Battle Phase that turn. And you
can't Special Summon anymore after all that
resolves. So, if there is still a Normal Summon
available, big monsters that require 3 tributes can
be summoned. Or you can hope that the monsters
survive for the next turn to XYZ Summon, or Special
Summon in general. There are some QuickPlay Spells
and Traps that let you Fusion, XYZ, or Synchro
Summon during the opponent's turn, but having those
2 cards ready at the same time can be difficult.
There is a high risk vs reward aspect to this card.
Ties of the Brethren would have been better if the
monster effects had been negated, but you could
still Special Summon afterward. As it is, standing
still with 3 monsters requires Spell/Trap support.
If you can, try it, but not more than 1. Imagine
drawing more than 1 of these could really brick the
hand. And there are so many Solemns or even just
Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon that would ruin this card.
Too risky for my blood, but still a good effect.
Score: 3.5/5 Good Luck.
Art: 2/5 The monsters in the image don't look
different enough.
