Toadally Awesome 

Coming in at #9 is the #1 worst renamed TCG card of 2016, beating out Shiranui Solitaire. My list put this powerful bugger at #15 for a number of reasons. His relatively late release coupled with his recent exile to the OCG restricted list seems to suggest the dominance of Toadally Awesome will be short-lived and was only released to sell packs, in the vein of cards like Sixth Sense.  

However, there is no denying his immense and immediate impact. Coupled with Paleozoic, E-Heroes or Mermail decks, this little guy produces a near flawless effect with a stunning ATK power for a rank 2. I’d wager any amount of money that if he was 1700 ATK, he would never have sniffed the top 10 list. So things like that can amount to something under the right circumstances. 

Unfortunately, it seems his days are already numbered. Considering the worldwide success of this frog, in particular in Paleozoic decks, and his restriction in the OCG, I can’t imagine Konami is going to keep him relevant. And taking into account how unbelievable his effect is in a bubble, I can’t imagine him ever being taken off the restricted list once he’s there. This, of course, limits the potential of his future. I honestly did not expect him to be restricted so soon, which is why I previously rated his future potential as 5/5. Now I’m forced to reduce it. I’d be more bummed if his TCG name didn’t suck so bad.

#9 on our end of the year list is Toadally Awesome.
 
Exclusive to mainly the Frog archetype as they have the most Level 2 Aqua-Type monsters. That aside, a Rank 2 with 2200ATK is unheard of. It Special Summons Frog monsters from your deck for each material you detach, you get deck thin and Special Summon for the price of one.
 
1-for-1 spell/trap OR monster effect negation ability with the added bonus of you gaining that card face-down on your field. Solemn Judgment as well as stealing an opponents card?!?! As long as you have an Aqua-Type in your hand or face-up on your field (Treeborn Frog) this effect is live once per turn. Toadally Awesome also will add any WATER monster back to your hand when it's sent to the grave, even if it is itself. You can also add back Toadally Awesome off its 3rd effect.
 
With strong ATK and a reusable Solemn Judgment effect during either turn, Toadally Awesome is just that: awesome. If it were any Level 2 monsters it would be limited to 1 or banned. You can make a deck around this guy with some decent support and could potentially wreck havoc.

Our totally awesome Number 9 card is Toadally Awesome! This card scored a 4 from me and an average score of 4.1. I'm inclined to increase my rating of this card because I hadn't seen the ease of summoning Toadally Awesome with Bahamat Shark. I look forward to playing against Toadally Masked Hero Decks in the future because I love Fusion/other hybrid decks. I had put Toadally Awesome higher on my personal list, but it being on the list at all is a testament to how good a monster it is. Negation effects in general are plentiful on this year's list. Even if this card gets limited, I expect this frog to have a space in most Extra Decks because it can resend itself to the Extra Deck with one of its effects.

We continue our Top 10 of 2016 list with a totally radical card that was just recently released. #9 is Toadally Awesome.

Position on my list: #8

Released in Invasion: Vengeance, the last core set of the year, Super Tubular Toad has already made a large impact on both sides of the game. The biggest problem Rank 2’s had was that most of them sucked, with the only really good ones being Daigusto Phoenix and Sky Cavalry Centaurea. There were the Paleozoics as well, but they’re locked to their own archetype.

Freaking Awesome Frog is great for Rank 2 Decks like Paleozoic and Frog (or Paleozoic Frog) as he serves as negation, recursion, and acceleration all at once. If the negation is all that suits your fancy, then Really Rad Toad also works with any Deck that can make Bahamut Shark; the two primary users of this strategy are HERO (with Bubbleman, Norden, and Rare Fish) and Mermail (with literally any of their Level 4 monsters).

The card’s release has helped spring Mermail and HERO back into the limelight to varying degrees, and Paleozoic has recently carved itself as a Top 3 Deck in the format (along with ABC and Metalfoes). OCG has had the card for longer, and has just recently taken to limiting it. While this hurts the power of Rocket Power Toad, one copy is still powerful enough to warrant using, especially since Shoobie Frog can recycle itself.

And yes, I really like poking fun at this card’s name.
