Crystron
Phoenix
This is a big boy, but he’s not
as big as he first seems. Crystron Phoenix is
incredibly expensive to summon, and often times,
Crystron users will employ much easier monsters
unless they really need to take out the opponent
spells and traps, Phantom Knight decks
notwithstanding.
I find it hard to defend
Phoenix to be honest. While he’s fun to summon, it
takes a lot of work, and the effect, while unique,
doesn’t seem to match to the skill level or cost it
takes to bring him out. I mean, Quasar isn’t that
much harder to summon than Phoenix, but he’s got a
much more potent effect. And while Crystron decks
can get those synchro monsters out in a hurry, how
many resources did you use to get him? And what do
you do when a single Solemn Strike takes him out
with no recovery effect to cushion the blow? There’s
not a lot of answers to those questions.
I think only time will tell if
he has any sort of future, because he’s most likely
only going to be used in Crystron decks. But even if
Crystrons get more support, his future would only be
fleeting and would go as they go.

Friday
And in a twist of fate a blind man saw coming, we
close the week with Crystron Phoenix. We have
a Level 9 Synchro, still Water and Machine, with
2800 attack and 2000 defense, who is Synchro
Summoned with a Tuner Synchro Monster, and one or
more non-Tuner Synchro Monsters. When this
card is Synchro Summoned, you can remove ALL Magic
and Trap cards your opponent controls and in their
Graveyard from play. Combo this with
Gliongandr, and you've likely got game right there.
At the very least, you have 5800 Damage coming
toward your opponent. This card also changes
up the effect of what you get when this card is
destroyed, but it's the best yet. It lets you
Target a Monster from your Graveyard and Special
Summon it. ANY Monster that is. Even
another one of these if you want. No
restriction as to type. Destroy this yourself
during your Battle Phase, bring out something with
2400 attack or more, and that IS game for you.
