Hello Pojo Fans,

Goyo Defender is a monster that can be more useful as material for Xyz or Synchro Summons than as an attacking or defending monster.

Weak ATK and DEF, if you have an EARTH Warrior Synchro on your side of the field you can bring this guy out without needing to Synchro him. X-Saber decks could make very good use of another free Level 4 EARTH material for Synchro or Xyz Summons. Aside from that, not many people are running Goyo Guardian (despite its continued usefulness).

It's ATK and DEF gain when being attacked isn't useful if your opponent gets rid of the other EARTH Warrior Synchro monsters first. If it gained ATK and DEF when attacking, this little guy could rise up in an X-Saber deck to a considerable ATK. I suppose it could feel safe if two strong EARTH Synchro Warrior monsters are out on your field, but Goyo Defender doesn't seem like a legitimate use of a space in an Extra Deck.

This card loses points for not having a higher Def with that name. Goyo Defender is a Level 3 Earth Warrior-type Synchro monster with 1000 Atk and 1000 Def. I don't know why Goyo keeps getting support that no one asked for, but here is another member of the Goyo Family that Guardian wishes didn't show up to the family reunion. 1500 Atk would have at least been respectable, but these stats are just awful.

Now Goyo Defender can swarm the field all by himself. He can Special Summon himself from the Extra Deck if you have any Earth Warrior-type Synchro Monsters on the field. The beauty of this effect is there is no restriction . You can Synchro Summon 1 of these and then Special Summon the other two from the Extra Deck for free. Or you can make a good Synchro Warrior Earth monster and summon all 3. The second effect is less useful because no one is going to bother attacking these things. However, if you somehow manage to have a bunch of other Synchro Warrior Earth monsters, this one would gain 1000 Atk for each until the end of the Damage Step. Potentially, with all 3 of these on the field, you could have some Level 3 monsters with 3000 Atk but only if they are the ones being targeted with an attack. The effect does nothing for the Def, so I would still say this is a horrible defender.

Score: 2.5/5 Rank 3 could work.
Art: 1/5 Children shouldn't defend.

So basically, this card lets you grab it straight from the Extra Deck when you have only one Monster on the field, and that Monster MUST be an Earth/Warrior Synchro. Just like itself. Ooooookay? Maybe if you need another Level 3 Monster to XYZ summon, this card has potential. Otherwise, I don't see the worth in this card.

Oh, wait, it has another effect: when it's attacked, you can boost its ATK 1000 points higher for the only other Earth/Warrior/Synchro Monster on the field. Which only makes it at 2000 ATK. Yeah, still not worth it.

Score: 2/5, only for XYZ bait
