Mithra the Thunder Vassal
- # SR01-EN011If this card is in your hand: You can activate this effect; you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, also Special Summon this card, and if you do, Special Summon 1 "Vassal Token" (Thunder-Type/LIGHT/Level 1/ATK 800/DEF 1000) to your opponent's side of the field in Defense Position. If this card is Tributed for a Tribute Summon: You can activate this effect; you can Tribute Summon 1 monster during your Main Phase this turn, in addition to your Normal Summon/Set this turn. (You can only gain this effect once per turn.) You can only use each effect of "Mithra the Thunder Vassal" once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Mithra the Thunder Vassal continues our week of
Monarch helper cards. Same stats as yesterdays card
along with a simiar effect(s).
Special Summon her at the cost of giving your
opponent a defense position token isn't a bad trade.
This monster will always be able to Special Summon
itself (with the exception of your opponents field
being full). If you Tribute this card for a Tribute
Summon you gain the extra Tribute Summon Eidos gives
you. Special Summon Mithra, Tribute Summon a
Monarch, then tribute that Monarch for a Mega
Monarch.
Eidos can bring Mirtha back to your hand and offer
you two monsters immediately to tribute if you are
in dire straights. This kind of synergy can lend its
power to other Tribute-based decks like LaDD, though
it seems that these were seemingly made to bring
back the monarchy.
Mirtha may be a better card than Eidos because even
in turn one this card is useful and won't waste your
Normal Summon. You have your Normal Summon, then a
potential second Tribute Summon for the turn. Even
the token in defense position could be changed to
attack mode via a card effect and open up life point
damage, especially if you have more than one monster
on the field.
Alongside the other helpers we'll go through this
week, as well as Treeborn Frog, Monarchs have more
than enough support to help make them rise again.

These stats are going to get very boring very
quickly. Mithra the Thunder Vassal is a Level 2
Light Thunder-type monster with 800 Atk and 1000
Def. Once again, the 800 Atk and 1000 Def stats are
what make this monster searchable in the Monarch
deck. I wish this was Level 1 to make One for One
more useful, but getting Edea is good enough. While
both Squires are commonly played in the new Monarch
deck, Mithra might be played because her effects
include some downsides.
Mithra Special Summons herself and a (Level 1) token
of herself to the other side of the field for no
cost. Then you can't go into your Extra Deck for the
rest of the turn. This effect screams to be abused
against Burning Abyss, but Monarch decks don't
really OTK and Domain of the True Monarchs should
already handle them nicely. Anyway, the second
effect is how you dodge Effect Veiler. If Mithra is
tributed for a Tribute Summon, you can Tribute
Summon one more time during your Main Phase that
turn. Her first effect activates in the Hand while
the second effect activates in the Graveyard. The
usual combo is to summon Edea who summons Eidos who
give you one extra Tribute Summon. Edea can be
Veilered and will stop the whole combo. If Mithra is
Special Summoned by anything, you can tribute her
and then Tribute Summon again without worrying about
Veiler.
Monarchs are a new deck and some people are using
Quantum cards to help with Tribute Summoning. Mithra
is another good option to consider, but is not
currently considered necessary, especially in a very
crowded deck.
Score: 4/5
Art: 3/5 A little too clowny for me.

So this week we'll be looking at the Vassals.
Mithra is decent enough for decks that rely on
high-level Monsters, especially Monarch decks (which
I think this particular card was designed to
support). The downside is that you can't Special
Summon any other Monsters but this one on the turn
you use its effect. But if you really need that
extra Normal Summon to help turn the duel in your
favor, then this is your card.
I think the point of summoning a Vassal Token on
your opponent's field was meant to serve two
purposes: to block one of his/her Monster slots, and
possibly to use that Token to summon a high-level
Monster to your field, ala Soul Exchange. It doesn't
say that specifically on this card, so I'll need
confirmation from the experts. If I'm right, then
that just makes Mithra even better. But if not, then
it seems like a useless effect to me.
Score - General decks: 2/5; Monarch/Tribute
decks: 4/5
