Hello Pojo Fans,

Alongside Solemn Strike, Ultimate Providence is another Counter Trap that can help in controlling your opponents moves.

Instead of Life Points (much easier to sacrifice), you'll be matching card-for-card to negate, netting a -1 for yourself, however you get the added bonus of covering s/t activation with this card. This negative can be offset if your strategy involves sending cards to the graveyard to either fill your graveyard with monsters, or if your monsters gain effects from being sent in any way to the grave (like Dandylion). The negative can also be offset by "Guiding Ariadne", which will absorb the cost. This card could see some playing time in Burning Abyss or in Nekroz, where ditching a spell could still be useful.

It may cost you a -1 to activate this card, but it can be very handy in a pinch. However, matching your opponent card-for-card without gaining an effect off the card you match them with is a big downside.

Counter Traps are still the mack daddy of Spell Speeds. Ultimate Providence can stop anything from activating. With Guiding Ariadne on the field, you can negate anything for free. That's right, depending on what you want to negate, you must discard that Spell, Trap, or Monster for Ultimate Providence to negate and destroy that Spell, Trap, or Monster. With Guiding Ariadne, you get another Counter Trap to search for, and the ability to negate anything except summons for no discard. Or, you could run this in decks that don't mind having cards go to the Graveyard. Electromagnetic Turtle or Burning Abyss monsters, Nekroz or Galaxy Cyclone Spells, Breakthrough Skill or maybe Traptrix Traps, or Performage monsters. Well before February 8th when Performage Damage Juggler gets hit with the banhammer.

Score: 4/5 Secret Rare for a reason.
Art: 2/5 I'm not sure what I'm looking at.

Now here's a neat little alternative to the Solemn cards; when the effect of a Spell, Trap or Monster card is activated, you can trigger this and discard a card of the same type you're targeting, and negate it. Some will say that this is far less costly than paying Life Points for a similar effect, while others will say it costs more because every card in their deck is precious. It all comes down to taste, really. Personally, I would prefer this card over a Solemn one, because I can think of many Monsters that would benefit from being thrown into the Grave. But discarding a Spell/Trap card is a bit more off-putting. And it's not like you can negate all three types in one go, this is a one-trick pony. So if you really, REALLY need the protection from opposing effects, then give this Trap a whirl.

 Score: 3 / 5
