Assault Blackwing – Chidori the Rain Sprinkling
- #SHVI-EN0511 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
If this card is Synchro Summoned using a "Blackwing" monster as Material, it is treated as a Tuner monster while face-up on the field. This card gains 300 ATK for each "Blackwing" monster in your Graveyard. When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 Winged Beast-Type Synchro Monster in your Graveyard, except "Assault Blackwing - Chidori the Rain Sprinkling"; Special Summon it.

Assault Blackwing – Chidori the Rain Sprinkling
Blackwings got the beater they could have used a
long time ago. Since level 7 is the easiest synchro
monster to summon for the black birds, this is a
really nice option mid-to-late-game. He can easily
get to above 4,000 ATK, and even if he’s destroyed,
his back-up effect can be a lifesaver, especially if
you have Raikiri the Rain Shower already in the
grave (which you should, as Raikiri is probably the
best synchro in the theme and should be the first
goal). In fact, Raikiri is the reason Chidori
exists. The two cards are a pair – Chidori is the
way to beat down the opponent and then bring back
Raikiri for the finisher.
Despite having more cards at its disposal than any
other theme, Blackwings are hurt by its lack of
solid loops and card-generating effects, but Chidori
is a must for the best version of Blackwings now,
and it will be at the forefront if Blackwings are
re-elevated to tier 1 status.
I believe he has solid future potential,
since Blackwings are a fan favorite and can expect
even more support some time down the road.

2600 ATK is pretty good for LV7, but being able
to gain 300 ATK for each Blackwing means it could
topple almost anything in battle. 2 in graveyard =
3200. 5 in graveyard = 4100! 10 in graveyard =
5600! And they don't even have to be monsters
of different names.
Being treated as tuner is a plus. I'm not sure
how useful it is to begin with because you're
already using a tuner to summon this. But that
could be good in that you can summon this main phase
1, use it as a beatstick, attack with it and then
use it to summon a different Synchro during Main
Phase 2. It requires a Blackwing monster as a
material in order to use this effect, but since
cards like Zepyhros and Gale the Whirlwind are
splashable, it wouldn't be hard for other decks that
could make more use of this ability to have it as
well.
Lastly, it replaces itself with a Winged-Beast
Synchro monster, generally a strong one. This
means it's good support for any Winged-Beast based
deck, but definitely such for Blackwings. Due
to both this effect and the ATK boost benefiting
from a full graveyard, this card is best used late
game. Very good support for Blackwings and
other decks too.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Blackwings got another Synchro monster in Shinning
Victories in the form of Assault Blackwing – Chidori
the Rain Sprinkling.
The pattern of Level 7 Synchros within Blackwings
works well with the decks ability to drop the
requirements on any turn, and its stats are
acceptable for its level. Becoming a Tuner itself
when using a “Blackwing” is nifty if you need
material for a bigger Synchro Summon, but usually
the Tuner monsters you pack into the deck will be
enough. ATK boost fom each Blackwing in your grave
makes this card in the late game a real powerhouse.
Note that it isn't each Blackwing “with a different
name”. You have duplicates? No problem! Add on top
of that it can replace itself with another Winged
Beast Synchro Monster in the grave when it is
destroyed and sent to the graveyard, and Chidori the
Rain Sprinkling should be a mainstay in a Blackwing
Synchro deck for sure.
As stated before, to get the most out of this
monster you will likely bring it out mid to late
game so its ATK will get a good boost and you will
have at least one option to Special Summon upon
Chidori's destruction. As is though you could bring
it to the field early on and have a 3000+ATK
Blackwing that could bring back another of your
Blackwing Synchro Monsters that bit the dust a turn
before.
Outside Blackwings its a Level 7 option for anyone
that may run Winged Beast Synchros. In Blackwings it
is a must.

Look, we've fallen into a time-warp! Not
only is this a Blackwing, but a Synchro at that.
assault Blackwing-Chidori the Sprinkling
Rain...Level 7, Dark, Winged-Beast, 2600/2000...Synchro
Summoned traditionally with a Tuner and one or more,
non-Tuner Monsters. This card does do some
cool, and even useful things. This is a card
that would have been a lot more relevant about the
number of years it threw us back in the time-warp,
but regardless.
If Synchro Summoned using a Blackwing Monster, this
card also becomes a Tuner. The awesome part
there is, then you have a Level 7 Tuner on the
Field. Granted, Synchros aren't the most
played cards right now, but that alone, gives you
some potential in open Synchro Decks, as well
obviously as to it's namesake with the rest of the
Blackwings. His attack boost is considerable,
and could be tremendous. He'd be a great
mid/late game card, as he also gains 300 attack per
Blackwing in your Graveyard.
Mid game, that's probably five Monsters on average
I'd say (4-6 estimately) so there's 1500 extra
attack, and then Chidori has 4200 attack. Late
game, that should easily be 7 Monsters (6-8 if not
more) which is nearing, or perhaps even breaking,
the 5000 attack mark. Oh, and true to
Blackwing form being a quick, resourceful Monster,
when destroyed (note this doesn't happen if removed
from play, only sent to the Graveyard) you get to
Special a Winged-Beast Synchro from your Graveyard.
Present company excluded of course.
Honestly, I like it a lot. Sure, Synchros
aren't what they use to be in the game, but it's
tremendous theme support. Even if one would
argue Blackwings have plenty of support all ready.
I wouldn't fault anyone for using this in their
Blackwing Deck, or even just a very dedicated
Winged-Beast Deck.

It's a big monster that can get bigger in
Blackwings. Assault Blackwing - Chidori the Rain
Sprinkling is a Level 7 Dark Winged Beast-type
Synchro monster with 2600 Atk and 2000 Def. It's a
generic 1 tuner / 1+ non-tuner Synchro Summon with
no restrictions. Blackwings have a lot of Synchro
options, but this one isn't perfect. And that name
Rain Sprinkling is not very intimidating.
Chidori has many effects, one of which isn't even
optional but can be beneficial. If a Blackwing is a
Synchro Material, Chidori becomes a tuner whether
that's good or bad. It can be good if you have
another Level 7 monster on the field to lead to
Tzolkin. It can be bad if you have some low level
tuners on the field and can't Synchro Summon
further. The second effect is just a 300 Atk boos
for every Blackwing monster in the grave. This can
get ridiculously high mid to late game. In a pure
build, this should be at least 3200 Atk. Even in
Raidraptors, this monster should at least get to
2900 Atk if not more. Anyway, the last effect is to
float a different Winged Beast Synchro monster to
the field when Chidori is destroyed and sent to the
grave. I wish it didn't have to go to the grave, but
I like that it doesn't have to be the opponent that
destroys the monster for the effect to activate.
Chidori is an excellent member of the Blackwing
toolbox Extra Deck, but not so great elsewhere.
Score: 4/5 Blackwing appeal.
Art: 4/5 Very bird samurai.
