Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon
- #DPKB-EN023Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" from your Deck. There can only be 1 "Malefic" monster on the field. Other monsters you control cannot declare an attack. If there is no face-up Field Spell Card on the field, destroy this card.

This card is several years old. I don't
know if it was ever even a decent card, but now
Blue-Eyes decks can run 3 copies of Blue-Eyes
Alternative White Dragon to get a quick cost-free
3000 ATK Blue-Eyes beater, with a decent effect too,
on the field. Malefic BEWD is bad.
Banishing a BEWD from your deck really hurts the
deck's combos. The Field Spell requirement
makes the card situational as there's no quality
Field Spell cards out right now that would actually
help the deck. Then, the limit on attacking.
No thanks.

What can we say about Malefic Blue-Eyes White
Dragon? It has the exact same stats as Normal
Monster Blue-Eyes White Dragon, except Malefic BEWD
is an Effect monster. And those effects are typical
Malefic effects. It can't be Normal Summoned or Set,
it gets destroyed when there is no Field Spell on
the field, it has to be the only Malefic on the
field, and finally, it doesn't let any other monster
attack while it is on the field. So if you don't
mind all of that, you can get a Level 8 3000 Atk
beater on the field by Banishing regular BEWD from
your Main Deck. A good idea would be to Special
Summon this while Azure-Eyes is on the field because
that monster doesn't let any Dragon be destroyed for
the turn it is Special Summoned. Skill Drain works
in a similar way, protecting Malefic BEWD from
destruction by its own effect and letting other
monsters on the field attack. In the hand and grave,
Malefic BEWD is another Blue-Eyes name and can at
least be tribute fodder or a good target for
Trade-In. This is a unique tech card for Blue-Eyes
decks, but only running 1 is a good idea.
Score: 3/5 Hope for more Malefic support.
Art: 5/5 I thought that whole movie was good.

He's baaaaaack! He's not sure for how long
or how often, but he was feeling the itch to do some
reviews again, so here I am. He even picked
cards for next week! Also, apparently he
refers to himself only in the third person now.
Seriously though, opening the week following our
Holiday is Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon. I
suppose it's fairly appropriate to review, given the
amount of Blue Eyes support that's been covered
lately. The Malefic Monsters are an
interesting bunch. Reliant on Field Magic
cards, evil counterparts of their original versions,
and can only be Special Summoned by removing the
original version from play (from your Hand or Deck,
so that's convenient, as opposed to having to bring
it to the Field first). It has the same core
stats at 3000 attack and 2500 like it's original
counterpart, although Dark (which opens up a great
deal of support) as opposed to Light, and still a
Dragon. Only one Malefic Monster can be on the
Field at a time, and is destroyed if there's no
face-up Field Magic card on the Field. Other
Monsters you control can't attack (and yes there are
some ways around this) but it's quite the annoying
effect. A Malefic Deck takes lots of work, and
even was hard to work in the anime (reference,
Yugioh: Bonds Beyond Time). This guy really
isn't going to work in a Blue Eyes Deck as the
Malefic form of Blue Eyes is just too against what
the rest of the Deck is trying to do. In a Malefic
Deck, however, you're obviously going to run more
than one Malefic Monster, and I would probably
through in one of these. But that still
doesn't make it particularly good.
