Protector with Eyes of Blue
- #SHVI-EN019

When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 Level 1 LIGHT Tuner monster from your hand. You can target 1 Effect Monster you control; send it to the Graveyard, and if you do, Special Summon 1 "Blue-Eyes" monster from your hand. You can only use this effect of "Protector with Eyes of Blue" once per turn.

Protector with Eyes of Blue

We start Blue-Eyes week with Protector, one of three new level 1 tuners. Each of the three spellcasters have two effects, one that lets you gain or special summon another tuner when normal summoned, and a second effect that lets you special summon a Blue-Eyes monster for a Blue-Eyes Spirit or Azure synchro summon.

Now I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing considering Blue-Eyes is wreaking havoc in the OCG, but two of these three support monsters are not very good, and Protector is one of them. It’s strange, but Sage with Eyes of Blue easily got the superior effect in both instances, exponentially so. Sage searches the deck and summons from the deck, while Master and Protector can only do things in the hand and graveyard. It’s very weird indeed that they weren’t split up more evenly. But as a result, Sage is being run in multiples while Protector and Master aren’t really seeing the light of day, and for good reason. 2-3 Sage and 2-3 Maiden is more than enough usually.

Outside of Blue-Eyes decks, Protector doesn’t have value, so he has weak future potential.

First, you take a -1 by summoning this card alone because it only has 400 ATK.  Special Summoning a monster from your hand is nice, but it doesn't grant you any resources. In fact, that's already 2 cards out of your hand.  Then you have to send a monster to the graveyard (that's another -1).  Then you Special Summon another monster from your hand (that's another card out of the hand).  Maybe if it Summoned that Blue-Eyes or that tuner from the deck, it may have been good.   It's bad though.  It's overly dependent on other cards.  This card is weak, it minuses and aside from helping to make Synchros (in a way that's less convenient than the old fashioned way), it does nothing.

Hey everyone. I'm back from a day of recovery. I hope you enjoyed CatlockBlitz's review. Anyway, Protector with Eyes of Blue is a Level 1 Light Spellcaster-type Tuner monster with 800 Atk and 1300 Def. The only stats that matter are that he is a Level 1 Light Tuner. In a Blue-Eyes deck he isn't as good as Sage, but that has nothing to do with his stats.

Protector with Eyes of Blue has 2 effects. The first is upon Normal Summon, he lets you Special Summon 1 Level 1 Light Tuner monster from your Hand. He can summon another copy of himself, or if you have access to multiple Normal Summons, can use this effect multiple times in one turn. The second effect is to target any effect monster including himself to Special Summon any Blue-Eyes monster from your Hand. That effect can only be used once per turn. The problem with these effects is they make you lose a lot of cards from your Hand with the end result being one Blue-Eyes monster on the field. He does trigger other effects by targeting them, but there will be times when you can't activate either effect because you don't have the appropriate card in your Hand.

Score: 3/5 Not the best, not the worst monster with Eyes of Blue.
Art: 4/5 Not protecting much with those stats.
