Sage With Eyes of Blue
- #SHVI-EN020When this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 Level 1 LIGHT Tuner monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Sage with Eyes of Blue". You can discard this card, then target 1 Effect Monster you control; send it to the Graveyard, and if you do, Special Summon 1 "Blue-Eyes" monster from your Deck. You can only use this effect of "Sage with Eyes of Blue" once per turn.

Sage with Eyes of Blue
Sage is a poster child for “toolbox” – it just does
so many things well. Unlike Protector and Master,
Sage is super fast, letting you plus from the deck
for a Maiden or Veiler if you need to normal summon
it. But his main reason for existence is to work
alongside Maiden with Eyes of Blue. Discarding Sage
and targeting Maiden allows you to summon two
Blue-Eyes White Dragons from the deck (Or more
likely a Blue-Eyes White Dragon and a Dragon Spirit
of White). And then you’re golden. Sync into
Blue-Eyes Spirit or XYZ into a rank 8 monster, or
heck even fusion summon into Blue-Eyes Twin Burst or
ritual summon Chaos Max. This versatility is what
has led to Blue-Eyes’ true success. Options galore.
I’m glad he has 0 attack, because at the very least
Sage should have some downside, even if it’s small.
I believe Sage has magnificent future potential.
Even if Blue-Eyes decks should get hit by the ban
list, the most likely targets will be cards like
Return of the Dragon Lords (formerly Gospel of
Revival), Melody of Awakening Dragon or Blue-Eyes
Spirit Dragon. Sage and Maiden will remain at 3
forever, and will be a constant boon for the theme.
Advanced: 3.5/5 (increase to 4.5/5 once the TCG gets
all the Blue-Eyes support)
Future Potential: 4/5

This card is good for the deck. It
searches. Unfortunately, it cannot search
another copy of itself and you wouldn't want to
search for Protector. That leaves Maiden with
Eyes of Blue, which is a pretty decent defensive
card and White Stone of Legend which is good for
consistency. It can also Summon a Blue Eyes
from the deck (which is really good for power, speed
and consistency). However, you have to give up
2 cards to do it (itself and another).
Granted, it's much more convenient than Tribute
Summoning, and if you give up a floater (like Stone,
which is searches), then you'll be good.

Sage with Eyes of Blue continues our Blue-Eyes
week. Much like the “Eyes of Blue” monsters, it has
low stats, but great effects that will help your
“Blue-Eyes” monsters. You have four “Eyes of Blue”
targets, as well as the two white stones and the
potential Effect Veiler.
Trading any effect monster for a “Blue-Eyes” monster
from your deck is a great effect. You will be
powering up with a much stronger monster, as well as
plus off of some of your effect monsters like Maiden
with Eyes of Blue.
You won't be able to add anything off of this
monsters Special Summon, but you'll likely be
Special Summoning Blue-Eyes monsters.

Here we have another monster with many stats that
don't matter. Sage with Eyes of Blue is a Level 1
Light Spellcaster-type Tuner monster with 0 Atk and
1500 Def. Again, the only stats that do matter are
that it is a Level 1 Light Tuner monster. These
effects are what make the deck function. They even
make some other decks more viable.
The first effect triggers upon Sage's Normal Summon.
You get to search any Level 1 Light Tuner monster
from your Deck to your Hand except another copy of
itself. You could get the White Stones, the other
Eyes of Blue monsters, some of those Psy-Frames,
Some of those Buster Blader Tuners, or even just
Effect Veiler. There isn't even a once per turn
clause on Sage. If you gain access to multiple
Normal Summons, you gain access to this effect more
often. Sage's second effect is also great because it
pulls a boss monster from the Deck. The cost of the
second effect is to discard Sage from your Hand and
send an effect monster you control to the grave.
Nothing is destroyed for that cost but you can use
your opponent's monsters if you control them. Then
you can get a Blue-Eyes monster from your Deck, once
per turn. There is more Blue-Eyes support coming,
but even for right now, you are essentially sending
two monsters to the grave to get a 3000 Atk beater
from your Deck. Furthermore, the cost to target an
effect monster you control will trigger some of the
other Eyes of Blue monsters' effects. You could end
up with multiple Blue-Eyes on the field with just
this one card. Excellent.
Score: 4/5 Good enough for Kaiba, good enough for
me.
Art: 5/5 Such Wisdom.
