Red Eyes Toon Dragon
- #SHVI-EN036Cannot attack the turn it is Summoned. While you control "Toon World" and your opponent controls no Toon monsters, this card can attack your opponent directly. Once per turn: You can Special Summon 1 Toon monster from your hand, except "Red-Eyes Toon Dragon", ignoring its Summoning conditions.

Red Eyes Toon Dragon
I can’t appreciate toon monsters, simple because
they’ve received so much support and yet so little
imagination. They only really do one thing: attack
directly. Yes, most of them all have effects, but
they win by attacking directly. However, like Red
Eyes, many of the toons can’t attack the turn they
are summoned. It’s a holdover from when they were
first introduced so long ago. Attacking directly was
too strong back then. It’s not now, but they still
continue to have the debilitating condition that
cripples them. Toon Dark Magician in the OCG is the
same, which is a real shame, because together with
Red-Eyes, they might have really been something
special considering they’re both level 7.
In today’s game, though, there better be a darn good
effect in exchange for not being able to attack.
There’s a reason cards like Chaos Sorcerer are at 3.
Not even banishing any monster you want is good
enough to justify passing up attacking, which is so
crucial right now. Heck, I imagine that most people
wanting to run toons would gladly pass up the
ability to attack directly if they could attack at
all!
As for Red-Eyes’ effect, it’s very solid, and as I
said before, it’s extremely harmonious with Toon
Dark Magician, so it has future potential,
especially if Konami stops messing around and lets
toons have a go at or near the top by introducing
some real support that ties them together. A toon
pendulum perhaps? Toon Odd-Eyes Dragon would be
hilarious and well-received.

I love the art work but this
card is terrible. It costs two tributes to
Summon, and it's ATK is weak by those standards.
It can't even attack the first turn it is out (it
might be destroyed by then). Summoning a Toon
monster from the hand generates no advantage
whatever. Maybe if it Summoned from the Deck,
it would've been a different story. What a
wasted opportunity.

Red-Eyes Toon Dragon
Once again Toon receive more support, although this
time its actually reasonably useful for the
Archetype.
Probably the biggest advantage of Red-Eyes Toon
Dragon, although not really the reason that you are
going to use this in a Toon Deck is the fact that
you can use this to Special Summon Blue-Eyes Toon
Dragon from your hand (for "Free") rather than
having to Tribute 2 monsters as normal.
My expectation of using this though would be that
you can use the effect of Red-Eyes Toon Dragon as a
way with which you can make Xyz's easier, or Summon
Toons that are actually able to attack this turn as
an additional benefit.
The biggest problem with Toons though is that many
aren't actually able to attack the turn that they
are Summoned, and this simply slows down the entire
Archetype so much.
I have some friends that were greatly awaiting the
release of this card, and they swear that 2 of this
card is really good... I'm going to take their word
for it here since this doesn't actually do enough to
help an Archetype that struggles to compete with a
Meta that far outstrips what this Deck can do even
when it Draws what would be considered a perfect
hand... Anything Tier can defeat this most of the
time after a couple of turns of "Grinding," and this
is a sad thing actually.
Rating: 3. Simply doesn't do enough to help the Deck
reach higher levels, especially since you need to
Tribute 2 monsters in order to Summon this to begin
with. But it still does provide a boost, albeit not
enough. |

Hello Pojo Fans,
Toons got a bevy of support last year, but sadly it
didn't help as much as players would have liked. Now
we review one of two new Toon support cards that
should really boost their playability: Red-Eyes Toon
Dragon.
Same everything as its originator, but now its a
cuddly toon and gains some bells and whistles.
Several toons cannot be Special Summoned for various
reasons, RETD ignores those restrictions and allows
you to play them right away...that is huge. Big toon
monsters like Blue-Eyes Toon Dragon are now easily
summoned. Your hand will now not get bogged down
with high level toons waiting for a way to be
summoned. Toon Table searches this out, and some of
the Red-Eyes support can work with this, though it
would clash with a dedicated Toon deck. Being unable
to attack the turn it hits the field is a downside
that most toons share, and doesn't hurt this card
much. Get around that with Toon Mask on your
opponents turn (if you have Toon World, and they
have a Level/Rank 7 or higher monster).

Red-Eyes Toon Dragon has the exact same stats as
Red-Eyes Black Dragon except that it is a Toon. As a
Toon, it is one of the stronger ones with 2400 Atk,
but the worst part of all Toons is the inability to
attack when they are Summoned. The usual Toon effect
applies that if Toon World is on your side of the
field, your Toons can attack directly. Finally, once
per turn you can Special Summon any Toon from your
Hand. There is an excellent way to get Toons to the
Hand with Toon Table of Contents, but there isn't an
easy way to get this monster to the field. I wish it
had said Hand or Graveyard like REDMD, but Toons
usually get the short end of the stick. So RETD gets
the shorter end of the score.
Score: 2.5/5 Summon Sickness Sucks.
