Ghostrick Alucard
- #WIRA-EN0462 Level 3 monsters
Monsters your opponent controls cannot target face-up "Ghostrick" monsters, or any face-down Defense Position monsters, for attacks, except this one. You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Set card your opponent controls; destroy that target. You can only use this effect of "Ghostrick Alucard" once per turn. If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 other "Ghostrick" card in your Graveyard; add that target to your hand.

Hello Pojo Fans,
When Ghostricks were big I cannot
believe we didn't profile this guy. Ghostrick
Alucard is one of the big hitters for the archetype.
One of their Xyz monsters, this Zombie has great
support behind him regarding his Type and DARK
Attribute. Only needing 2 Level 3 monsters, his wide
range of potential materials gives him great
versatility for summoning.
Though he protects all face-up “Ghostrick”
monsters (other than himself) and face-down monsters
from attacks, he himself is still a target, and he
isn't very strong. Set card destruction via
detachment of material is a great 1-for-1 trade that
eliminates resources for your opponent, and he will
give you back a “Ghostrick” card of any kind once
sent to to the graveyard in any way. Return a
different copy of Ghostrick Alucard, get back a
Ghostrick spell to play right away, or get another
Ghostrick monster to start your combos all over
again.
He can be played in any deck that
has a few level 3 monsters in it. He can protect
facedown monsters like Shaddoll from being attacked
so they may live and use their flip effects. Burning
Abyss could use him if they really wanted to, but he
excels best in his own archetype. If he were a
little stronger his first ability would hold more
water, but it is still a great ability. Combine some
Zombie or DARK support with him. That first ability
is useful with or without attached materials so Book
of Life and Mezuki will help with that. It is also
worth noting that if you control two of these guys
face-up you will have a lock in place much like the
Magician Valkyria lock.

Castlevania SotN reference. Anyway Ghotrick
Alucard is a Rank 3 Dark Zombie-type XYZ monster
with 1800 Atk and 1600 Def. While Ghostricks have
ways of utilizing this monster, it stands as a
decent Rank 3 option for any deck that runs 2 Level
3 monsters. 1800 Atk can stand up to a few things
especially if it attacks something in its weaker Def
position. Zombies in general have tons of support
and so do Darks. But again, this is very much a
toolbox card for decks that can summon it because of
its effects.
Ghostrick Alucard protects Face-up Ghostricks and
all Face-down monsters from attacks except himself.
So with 2 on the field, your opponent can't attack.
If Alucard is sent to the Graveyard from anywhere,
you can target any Ghostrick card from the grave to
send to your hand. I'm sure there are some
worthwhile Ghostrick Spells and Traps that could be
used instantly. I saved the middle effect for last
because it is the only one that has a once per turn
restriction and the only one with a cost. Detach one
material to target any set card on your opponent's
field and destroy it. This quick removal of backrow
is what gives this card utility in many decks. You
use the effect to get around defenders and try to
attack for the win. Even an activated card will
still be destroyed once it is targeted. This effect
is very useful in combination with cards that turn
opponents cards Face-down to avoid effects that
prevent targeted destruction. Try it if you can.
Score: 4/5 Ghostricks obviously. Level 3 decks run
this if you have room.
Art: 3/5 He looks too young to be a lord of
darkness.

Ooooo, an Alu-card! I wonder which reference I
should make.... *spins a wheel with Hellsing,
Hellsing Ultimate, Castlevania, Monster Squad and
Other labels.... The wheel spins off its axel and
rolls away* ...Hmm. Guess it's best that I just get
to the review.
Okay, so Ghostrick Alucard is a decent XYZ monster
that's rank 3, 1800/1600 who protects face-down
monsters and other Ghostricks. Decent enough, but
there's more: his detach effect lets you destroy one
face down card your opponent controls, regardless if
it's a Spell, Trap, or Monster. The only downside to
this is that with only two monsters to Exeed for
this, you get the effect twice, and not on the same
turn. If you can keep him alive for more than one
turn, then Alucard could be a problem for your
opponent.
Of course, when he does die (which, for a vampire,
is pretty funny to say), then you can add a
Ghostrick monster from your grave to your hand. Note
that it says one OTHER Ghostrick, meaning Alucard
can't recover himself.
Then again, you can run up to three Alucards in your
extra deck, unless I'm mistaken. And since two level
three monsters are fairly easy to get on the field,
then Alucard could potentially ruin your opponent's
day. But he shines best in a Ghostrick deck, for his
full potential.
Score: 5/5 Ghostrick; 4/5 face-down control; 3/5 for
general control and casual XYZ
