Draghig, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
- #PGL3-EN053If you control a monster that is not a "Burning Abyss" monster, destroy this card. You can only use 1 of these effects of "Draghig, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss" per turn, and only once that turn.
● If you control no Spell/Trap Cards: You can Special Summon this card from your hand.
● If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can choose 1 "Burning Abyss" card from your Deck and place it on top of your Deck.

Draghig, Malebranche of the
Burning Abyss
It's just another name (LV3
summonable Malebranche Dante-fuel) for BA decks.
It's effect can groom you to mill the specific
monster you're looking for, although discarding
Draghig is still sort of a -1. And having a
diversity of BA monsters is more versatile than
having 3 of any inessential one. Dante needs
as many names as he can get though.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Holiday Season,
Spring Breaks, or just the beginnings of Spring.
Draghig, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, as with
all of the cards this week, have been rereleased in
the latest PGLG Infinite Gold set. It is a Level 3
Dark Fiend-type monster with 1100 Atk and 900 Def.
All the Malebranches have similar stats and effects.
You don't use this to attack or defend. You don't
use Allure of Darkness because the cost is too high.
In fact the only notable part of Draghig's stats is
that I can't pronounce its name.
The usual Burning Abyss effects apply to Draghig as
well. It's destroyed if you control another monster
that is not Burning Abyss. Sometimes, this isn't a
problem. Unfortunately, this effect can activate
multiple times per turn, destroying Draghig. The
other effects are more limited. You could even
Normal Summon it knowing it will be destroyed to
gain its other effect. That effect being if Draghig
is sent to the grave, you can search a Burning Abyss
card from your deck and place it on top of your
deck. There is no restriction on this, so you could
get another Draghig to draw on your next turn. Or
the Trap. Or the Spell, but don't run the Ritual
Monster. The final effect is also common to the main
deck Malebranches. If you control no Spells or
Traps, you can Special Summon Draghig from your
hand. This is how Burning Abyss monsters swarm and
XYZ Summon all the Rank 3 monsters. Now you have to
pick which effect you are going to activate, either
the hand one to Special Summon itself or the grave
one to put a card on your Deck because you only
activate one and only once per turn. Draghig is a
combo card in a deck that just keeps getting more
support. You only really need one and then just
recycle it if you really want to know what you are
going to draw or mill with Dante.
Score: 3/5 Nothing wrong, but the deck is somewhat
crowded.
Art: 4/5 Fiends with weird names.

So I hope if you celebrate Easter you had a good
one. Anyways after the nice weekend we're back to
reviewing cards. This week we're gonna be reviewing
some of the best cards in the game. With the last
one being a card people once complained was too good
and needed to be banned. But that's for a later
date.
Today we're covering Draghig, Malebranche of The
Burning Abyss. Draghig is able to summon himself if
you control no spells/traps like every other
Malebranche card. His effect when sent to the grave
is that you can choose any Burning Abyss and place
it on top of your deck. Now if you have a Dante on
field you can make it so if you mill with him you're
guaranteed to get in the grave at least one card you
want in there. Personally I don't much care for
Draghig mostly because I believe that you can't use
Dante's eff and detach Draghig from the Dante, use
the Draghig ability first and then mill. I'm not for
sure on this if someone could inform me for sure
it'd be pretty great. Otherwise I'll stick with the
usual Graff, Cir, Scarm and even Barbar. Good card,
but just not my taste.

At first glance, Draghig seems to be the answer
to some consistency problems Burning Abyss has.
Being able to control to Dante’s mills or future
draws seems exactly what would add some speed and
direction to what otherwise might be left up to
luck. But my problem with this card, and any other
similar Burning Abyss card for that matter, is that
it doesn’t inherently give you a plus or lead to
immediate plays that would replace sacrifices.
There’s a reason Tour Guide, Graff and Cir are
restricted, and there’s a reason Scarm and Dante
just got hit in Japan. Burning Abyss is only as good
as the plusses they generate. Draghig is a setup man
for a minor effect. Perhaps if it had let you stack
two or three Burning Abyss cards, it would be
better.
As for the card’s future potential, I always take
notice of cards that let you stack the deck. A card
called True Name will soon arrive to the TCG, and
that card is begging to be abused one day. But
overall, I can’t imagine that Draghig alone will
ever have a big impact one day. Setup cards like
these rarely do.
