Ghost Reaper and Winter Cherries
- #SHVI-EN040During either player's turn, if your opponent controls more monsters than you do: You can discard this card; reveal 1 card in your Extra Deck, then look at your opponent's Extra Deck, also banish all cards in their Extra Deck with the same name as that revealed card. You can only use this effect of "Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries" once per turn.

Ghost
Reaper and Winter Cherries
The hype for this monster has
been real and frankly overboard. I understand the
implications of this monster. In decks that don’t
squeeze every last bit of production out of the
extra deck and therefore can’t add unrelated extra
deck cards for ammunition, this is a card that can
wreck entire themes without breaking a sweat. Step
1. Banish Dante. Step 2. Scoop it up. The fact that
it’s a dark zombie tuner is almost a joke, because
no one summons, sets, or discards this unless it’s
desperation time. And in mirror matches, it’s like
Wavering Eyes all over again. “Who gets it off
first?” is the only drama.
But at the same time, this game
does not tolerate dead cards. If you have a card
that sits dead in your hand half the time, your deck
is already faulty and you won’t be successful over
the long run. Blue Eyes White Dragon is not a good
card by itself, but because it’s so rarely a dead
card in hand, his theme is excellent, especially in
the OCG. Well as much as certain people might shout
to the highest mountains about it, Ghost Reaper and
Winter Cherries isn’t a staple or a “draw-then-win”
card, and heaven forbid you topdeck it.
It’s a sidedeck card and always
will be. Granted it’s an extremely powerful sidedeck
card, especially for certain themes, but it can
never be more than that unless new zombies come
along to make use of it in other ways (if only it
had 0 DEF instead of ATK! Shiranuis would have been
calling!). Perhaps in certain tournaments, an
argument will be made at times to main deck this,
because known opponents will be more frequent in
appearance, but otherwise there’s just not enough to
love of this card.

Shining Victories released some interesting
cards. This completely destroys certain decks, but
not on its own. By stats it needs a lot of help.
Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries is a Level 3 Dark
Zombie-type Tuner monster with 0 Atk and 1800 Def.
Since you have to run 3 of these, use Allure of
Darkness on the other 2. It's also a Zombie, so they
come out of the grave all the time. Even monsters
with 0 Atk have some minor support. 1800 def is
passable. Tuners are cool, but this monster won't be
on the field unless you're trying to block. Instead
use this on your opening turn to really hurt your
opponent.
Once per turn during either player's turn, if they
have more monsters than you, you can discard Ghost
Reaper & Winter Cherries to reveal your Extra Deck
card and banish your opponent's matching Extra Deck
cards. That's it. If you can activate this before
your opponent gets their key Extra Deck monster out,
then they are all banished. That is, if you run the
same card they run in your Extra Deck. That's why
this card is perfect in any Extra Deck mirror
matches. It also has some utility in the Side Deck.
However, most decks that are powerful right now
don't rely on their Extra Deck for their win
condition (Monarchs, Kozmo), while Performapals will
just summon a different monster instead of the one
you make them banish. Burning Abyss gets hurt by
this, but only if Ghost Reaper gets to Dante first.
Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit has more utility because it
destroys monsters, spells, or traps when they would
want to use them most and negates some of them. It
also has utility outside of the beginning of the
game. Ghost Reaper really needs to hit something
right at the beginning to be useful. I would suggest
owning three and then seeing if Burning Abyss
remains as powerful as it is. Good luck drawing it.

Ghost Reaper and Winter Cherries
Awwww, what an adorable little Yokai. ^__^
At first glance, this card looks all too amazing.
And it sort of is; it helps you get rid of any Extra
Deck monsters your opponent may summon later in the
game, making them pretty much useless. However,
there's a downside to this card: You can only use
her effect when your opponent's monsters outnumber
yours, and she doesn't even help destroy them. Her
focus is set only on the Extra Deck, so even if you
do manage to dent your opponent's strategy, you've
still got a field full of opposing monsters to worry
about.
I like that she has 1800 DEF, though; if all else
fails she can at least stall your opponent for a
turn early on in the game. Plus she's just so
super-duper-mega-kawaiiiiiiii! Okay, I'll stop.
Final Score: 3/5 (Not for everybody, but definitely
Side deck worthy)
