Deskbot 009
- #SHVI-EN042Once per turn, during your Main Phase 1: You can make this card gain ATK equal to the combined ATK of all "Deskbot" monsters you currently control, except "Deskbot 009", until the end of your opponent's turn. Only this card can attack the turn this effect is activated. If this card battles, your opponent's cards and effects cannot be activated until the end of the Damage Step. If this card would be destroyed by battle or card effect, you can destroy 1 "Deskbot" card you control instead.

Deskbot 009
This is what’s called the finisher. Able to be
pendulum summoned via 005 through 008, Deskbot 009
has one purpose: to end the duel. The point of
deskbots is to get 4 or 5 of them out at the same
time to increase each of their attack power by
multiples. Using the very useful effects of 003 and
004 establishes the field, and normally establishing
initial combos leads to success, but 009 is a safer
attacking option.
However, I’m not a fan and I know my opinion is not
the popular one. Since the field spell Deskbot Base
needs at least one copy of all 9 deskbots to get its
blow-up effect, it’s like I’m speaking Greek when I
tell deskbot players to exclude 009. But I stand by
the opinion. It’s not a very good card without a
full field. And if you’re going to run all 9
deskbots just for the possibility of the field
spell, that means you have to run others too, like
005 which is worse. And honestly when was the last
time you even saw somebody pull off Deskbot Base?
It’s just a distraction at best. You might as well
be trying to summon Gate Guardian.
I like the deskbot theme. It’s fun. But if you also
want to win duels with them, it needs to be
efficient and maximize the plusses. Deskbot 009 does
not help and it will sit dead in the hand with just
one enemy Twin Twister. Consider giving up the dream
of Deskbot Base for a better deck.

I'll admit, I don't know much about Deskbots.
They seem to Pendulum Summon to swarm the field,
pump attack stats, and have this monster attack with
impunity. Deskbot 009 is a Level 9 Earth
Machine-type monster with 500 Atk and 500 Def. The
stats on its own are not good. 500 Atk and Def for a
Level 9 monster is highly problematic. Deskbots are
also very focused on supporting themselves, so
support from other archetypes is limited. Machine
Duplication, Transmodify, and some other cards might
be useful to take advantage of being a machine. I do
like that their name corresponds to their level.
Deskbots are interesting in that their deck has many
leveled monsters. Reasoning comes to mind as another
support card. Anyway, Deskbot 009 has 3 great
effects. First, you can pump this card's attack by
the combined attack of all the other Deskbots on the
field once per turn. When you do that 009 is the
only Deskbot that can attack. All the Deskbot
monsters pump attack, so this can reach absurdly
high levels if it's activated last. Second, When it
attacks regardless of the first effect, your
opponent's cards and effects cannot be activated
until the end of the Damage Step. Third, 009 can
switch its destruction from battle or effect to
another Deskbot card you control. It's interesting
that 009 could be hit with Mirror Force and then
switch it to the Field Spell Deskbot Base. This
card, and the Deskbots as a whole seem to be very
OTK glass cannon. 009 fits that criteria well, but
one Skill Drain and you just have a Level 9 wimp on
the field.

Card: Deskbot 009
Hmm, this is an interesting one. He's easily
searchable with his weak ATK and DEF, and gets
pumped up by its bretheren if they happen to be on
the field. (Also he can attack without being blocked
or destroyed by card effects. Always a plus.) A fun
concept, but just how well can it be executed? Well,
to answer that question, you'd have to build a very
dedicated Deskbot deck with all corresponding cards
from 001-009, et cetera. My question to you is: do
you really want to do that? I mean I'm sure it would
work, but getting five Deskbots on the field plus
two in the Pendulum Zones seems tedious to me. At
least, after you compare it to other deck themes
like Dracos, Performals, Dinomists, and the newly
improved Blue-Eyes just to name a few.
Look, I'm not saying it's utter trash, but Deskbots
in general just don't seem all that fun to me. They
at least have Pendulum monsters to help speed things
up, and you're looking at a potentially
high-attacking beast when they all come together-
3500 ATK max. I just think it requires a lot of time
and an insane amount of luck to really pull it off.
To each their own.
