Coming right off of yesterday’s review, we continue our banlist week with another Dracoslayer card that has been Limited: Draco Face-Off.
 
Aside from being able to just pull Luster Pendulum straight out of your Deck (which kind of neutralized the fact that they Limited him in the first place), what really made Draco Face-Off so powerful is that it effectively gave you two free Pendulum Monsters, as the one you put in Extra Deck was bound to come out eventually. This made what appeared to be a break even actually a delayed +1 that also set up your Extra Deck for free. At worst it could help you set up your Scales (and guaranteed too if you were going for a low scale, though now with Lector Pendulum you can do the same with a high scale), and being Quick-Play added to its flexibility.
 
This is another card that just gave Pendulum Decks far too much power, and was potentially a blowout when played. Limiting it helps curb that power, though again it also unfortunately lowers consistency. I personally support avoiding hits to consistency when possible, but when you make cards that offer both power and consistency doing so becomes difficult.

Draco Face-Off

There are times when I understand why overpowered cards were made. Even monsters as broken as Ignister make sense sometimes, because they’re the goal. And you have fun getting to your goal. But other cards just don’t make sense at all. And Draco Face-Off is one of those. Like… what was Konami thinking? Was there really a supposition that this wouldn’t be abused? Or do they make cards with that purpose in mind for whatever intention, sinister or otherwise? I can just see the dollar signs in their eyes as they came up with this. I can imagine the conversation. “Oh, man, this is way too powerful already, but just for funsies, let’s make it a quickplay! Now let’s go sell some cardboard!” It’s how I felt when they actually released Sixth Sense in the TCG. Purely to sell stuff, regardless of what it did to the meta. Kinda makes you sick inside.

So I guess they sold enough of Draco Face-Off now, so it’s restricted. It’s not banned because decreasing it to 1 supremely decreases the odds of its effectiveness, since it’s most effective early to mid-game, unlike Wavering Eyes, which is good almost any time you have it and can change the flow of an entire duel. And I can actually see this returning one day, but only when other supporting cards are sufficiently controlled. It just should have never been made.

Draco Face-Off probably should have just been banned. It's a Quickplay Spell Card that generates way too much advantage for the player that draws it.  As more time goes on the Pendulum cards that this can summon/activate will increase. The ban list put this at one as a mercy, but in reality, Dracos have enough support coming to lose this card.

Card: Draco Face-Off

I must have been living under a rock lately, because I was unaware of just how popular the whole Draco theme has been. It has to be if they're going to limit some of the set's more broken(ish) cards. So yeah, Draco Face-off: simply put, you get a free monster from the deck with a little help from your opponent. The only catch is that one of the two cards you grab, either the slayer or the overlord, has to be sent to the Extra Deck, which as far as I know counts as being put out of play. Unless I'm overlooking a card effect that says “Choose one Dracoslayer or one Dracoverlord in your Extra Deck and Special Summon it,” I don't see how you're going to get that card back. But like yesterday's card, this one has just the right amount of balance to make it playable but not completely overpowered. So rest easy for now, Draco players.

Final Score: 4/5 for card, 3/5 for restriction (they could have at least Semi-Limited it, I think)
