Lullaby of Obedience
- #DPRP-EN009

Pay 2000 LP and declare 1 Monster Card name; your opponent looks at their Deck, reveals 1 of the declared monsters if there is any, and applies 1 of these effects. ● Add it to the hand of the player who activated this card. ● The player who activated this card Special Summons it to their field in Attack Position, ignoring its Summoning conditions.

Lullaby of Obedience

Boy did this card cause a firestorm when it was first revealed. There were only two opinions: that it would be broken and everyone would run it, or it would be terrible and no one would. I was of the latter belief, for the same reason everyone on my side noted. The opponent gets to pick what happens to the card. This is a big deal, and it’s the reason no one in the OCG runs it, and the reason no one will ever main deck it outside of maybe tournaments clogged with only one tier-1 deck available at any given time.

I guess it’s a shame, but I could see the potential of Lullaby of Obedience if you got to pick what happened with the card. It would be broken, really. Add Maxx C. Special Summon Dragon Spirit of White. Two good things right? Well, in the actual version, the opponent special summons the Maxx C and adds Dragon Spirit of White to your hand full of ABC support. You just wasted 2000 LP. I think people get seduced by the possibilities of this spell in mirror matches, but that’s just silly. That makes it a side deck card, not something you main deck. Am I supposed to get excited about a high-cost card I can only use after duel 1? And something that still may benefit my opponent in the end, and probably will? And don’t even get me started on the OTK using it combination with Present Exchange, Engraver of the Mark and Horakhty. It’s not even worth going into.

I don’t see a future for this card. You just can’t expect a format to ever come that will somehow be filled only with decks where Lullaby can always be useful. It’s just never going to happen. For every mirror match you face, there’s going to be a dozen other types of decks you play, and Lullaby will be the ultimate dead weight. It really is a terrible card, and would probably only see real play in OTK decks that use it in some dastardly way, as mentioned above. And you all know how I feel about OTK’s.

I had to read this card twice just to make sure, but I'll clarify: this card is not just a Dark Designator.  You actually get the card that you select.  But the opponent does get to choose where it goes.  Keep in mind that this can be a downside in some occasions.  If it's a high Level monster, the opponent would put it in your hand.  Actually, I think they would do that in most cases unless it's like a flip effect monster or a pendulum with a powerful spell effect.

2000 life points is the cost.  Pretty fair.  Unless your low on LP, you can use it anytime.  But having LP cost cards in your deck does prevent you from using other LP cost cards.  It's 1 for 1 on card advantage, which is good, and you get to pick which card you do get.

Against mirror matches, this can be an impactful card because you have a wide selection of cards you can use.  It won't be a consistent card for every match-up though.  Some decks won't have monsters that could be of practical use to you, although denying the opponent one of their key monsters can be a good thing.  Overall, it looks like a strong side deck option.  I hope I'm not grading on a curve here, but it really does seem like the best card of the ones we're reviewing this week.

Lullaby

Hello Pojo Fans,

Lullaby of Obedience has been hyped for some time. Players have waited for  it, hoped it would not be nerfed, and this card doesn't disappoint.

2000 Life Points is a steep cost, but to pull a monster out of your opponents deck and either get it to their hand or Special Summon it is worth it. Ignoring the requirements for summoning makes it even more worth your while to play one. While the opponent gets to decide which effect is applied, they are losing a monster while you are breaking even. You are likely always going to get the monster to your hand, but if it can be summoned immediately, you will. Black Luster Soldier-Envoy, Mega Monarchs, any boss monster from any deck you face is yours. Most players are encyclopedias of information when playing the game, and they know most of the monsters run in a certain deck, ANY deck. For 2000LP any of your monsters can be theirs, that can change the game.

No restrictions on how many you play per turn, or on summoning, Lullaby of Obedience should see some playability. I really want to see someone play a deck with Spell Economics, this card, and cards revolving around Spell Econ.

2000 Life Points is too expensive for this Normal Spell Card. Lullaby of Obedience is a gamble in that after you declare a Monster name, your opponent decides where it goes. If they even have it in their deck. If they drew it, then you don't get it. If it is in their deck they put it in your hand or on your field. This could be very useful in mirror matches since the same deck list will grant more knowledge. Or just call out Solemn Strike, but then you're paying 2000 LP and then 1500 LP. Yep, Lullaby of Obedience is too expensive for me, but it could be useful some of the time.
