Kuraz the Light Monarch
Todays COTD is Kuraz the Light Monarch, at level
6 and boasting the standard monarch stats of 2400
attack and 1000 defense Kuraz is a light warrior.
And unlike the majority of the other monarch's
Kuraz only needs to be normal or special summoned to
get his effects, rather than tribute summoned like
his more popular brethren. And it's a nice little
effect, as when he is summoned, he can target upto 2
cards on the field, destroy them and the owner/s get
to draw a card for each. To make him more balanced,
Kuraz can't attack when he's normal or special
summoned.
Have dead cards on the field or the opponent is
blocking you with a bigger monster? Worried about
that face down your opponent has? Kuraz can destroy
them. As an effect he's pretty versatile with what
he can destroy and can get rid of upto 2, so you
don't need to worry about Starlight Road or The Huge
Revolution is Over.
He was never as widely played as the other
monarchs, but still found a place in some offbeat
Exodia variants and any deck needing draw or
destruction effects in a tribute monster form.

Kuraz the Light Monarch
For however much potential this card had, it just
never panned out for some reason. Gaining draw
power out of this required you to destroy 2 of your
own cards. You can do that in a floaty way,
but not consistently. Destroying the
opponent's cards makes them plus which is not good.
It's the only monarch which works with Special
Summon, but it can't attack. Disabling the
attack was a way to prevent OTKing from destroying
the opponent's resources and then attacking, but it
also has made this situational card less deadly.
This card has really never gained much traction.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Haven't seen Kuraz appear on CoTD in a very long
time.
Kuraz was the first Monarch that gave an
advantage to the opponent if you chose to destroy
their cards with its effect. Two-card destruction is
great, but a break even for the opponent isn't. Tack
on the non-attack clause Kuraz has when it it is
Normal or Special Summoned, and you have a Monarch
that wasn't the best. The first Monarch that got its
effect if Special Summoned as well as Normal
Summoned was a great add, but it all went back to
giving your opponent cards back for destroying
theirs.
The game has changed though, and destroying your
own cards has factored more into strategies. While
you could've used this effect back when Kuraz first
hit playability, there wsn't much outside of
searchers to choose from. Now you have Shaddolls,
Burning Abyss, Pendulums, etc that will give you
pluses off destruction. Tribute to Summon, kill off
a few cards and further your own plays, all the
while having a 2400ATK monster on your field. You
could even Forbidden Chalice Kuraz after getting a
draw off of him to go in for a quick bit of damage.
Kuraz has more playability nowadays in the TCG,
thanks to to advent of strategies involving your own
card destruction. Monarchs have grown stronger (even
after losing some of their cards) and this card
deserves a shot in a few decks, maybe even finding
itself as an outside tech.

Kuraz the Light Monarch is a Level 6 Light
Warrior-type monster with 2400 Atk and 1000 Def.
Monarchs can do well because they have easy access
to locking out the Extra Deck. Kuraz aids this goal
by allowing you to draw cards when it is Normal or
Special Summoned. It doesn't even need to be Tribute
Summoned to gain its effect. Or, you could target up
to to of your opponent's cards on the field for
destruction, but they will get to draw up to 2 cards
instead of you. This is definitely a skill card
because of the choices you will be faced with. The
main downside is that Kuraz cannot attack the turn
it is Normal or Special Summoned whether it uses the
effect or not. So while you cannot push for game
with this monster it can easily combo with other
cards every turn it's summoned. Multiple copies
summoned during the same turn will also gain their
effects, possibly drawing you 6 cards that turn
provided you have cards on your side to destroy. I
see Monarchs making a comeback and this card will be
a must at at least 2.
