Clashing Souls
- #DUSA-EN038
During damage calculation, if your Attack Position monster battles an opponent's Attack Position monster with higher ATK: The controller of the battling monster with lower ATK can pay 500 LP for that monster to gain 500 ATK during damage calculation only, then keep repeating this effect until a player chooses not to pay LP. Neither player takes any battle damage from that battle, also, after damage calculation, if any player's monster would be destroyed by that battle, send all cards that player controls to the Graveyard instead.

Clashing
Souls
What appears to be an
interesting new card from Duelist Saga at first
proves to be a bit of a stinker in the end, as is
often the case when a card has too many caveats.
Clashing Souls is no exception and shouldn’t make
much of an impact.
Since this card can only be
activated during the damage step, only when your
monster has lower attack, and also only when you
have higher lifepoints than your opponent, the
number of requirements needed to make this card
successful will prove to be far too high, especially
for a card that can’t be searched. I doubt anyone
could utilize this card well, even if it wiped out
the whole board including the opponent monster. And
I suppose you could use this to save your own
monster at the cost of the rest of the cards on your
field, but let’s be serious.
Pass on any temptation to tech
this card.

This has to be one of the most entertaining cards
I've ever had to review. The effect is
confusing, but to sum it up in short, both players
are forced into an arms race, and it's a decision
between how many life points are worth your current
setup. It seems like one of these situational
anime cards that looks cool on television but this
card might have actual potential in real-life play.
I'm not 100% sure if it's consistent or versatile
enough to be competitive, but who knows, it might
be.
If the opponent has a large setup, you can force
them to vigorously protect it. If they don't
have a lot of life points, you can easily outbid
them in a war of attrition.
The down-side: This is a win-more card. Good
if you're already winning but not good if you're in
a bad position. If your life points are low,
no good. If you have field advantage over the
opponent, no good. Also, you have the most at
risk. You're risking a monster, a Spell card
and a bunch of life points if you lose the battle,
on top of possibly being wide open for a direct
attack.
It has potential as a power-card and can be used in
more than one way, but time will tell if this card's
rewards outweigh the risk.

Todays COTD is Clashing Souls, a quickplay spell
from the newly released Duelist Saga. A card that
directly references one of my favourite moments in
5Ds, the final duel between Yusei and Jack.
During battle between two attack position monsters,
the player with lower attack can pay 500 life points
to increase their monster's attack by 500. This
keeps going until both players decide not to pay.
Nobody takes battle damage from that battle and if a
monster would be destroyed by that battle, that
player loses all cards they control.
It really is a game of chicken, moreso than Chicken
Game was. If your monster is more than 500 attack
lower, you pay twice if you want to beat over your
opponents monster. There are no defensive options
for this card, it can be an all-or-nothing gamble as
both players continue paying life to win the battle.
