Hello Pojo Fans,
Solemn Judgment is another overly powerful card that
had to be banned.
Half your LP for a Summon, Spell, or Trap negation
and destruction can seem steep, but late game this
can mean nothing. This card was tremendous back in
the day, and at one time it was at 3, if you can
believe that. Nowadays I'm not sure how dominant
this card would be. So much depends on destruction
and grave-centric strategy that this card may come
back and, while it could have a impact, I'm not sure
it will be as dominant and devastating as it used to
be. If you negate a summon that is great, but if the
monster has an effect off destruction it still gets
destroyed by Judgment. You took away a resource on
the field, but they still got something from it,
while you lost half your LP. Regardless of that
oversight, this card is still amazing and powerful.
I'd love to see it come back and see what an impact
it'd have.
It's almost perfect, but it doesn't negate monster
effects, and because the game has evolved, its power
has been hit slightly.

We end this week off with one of the few Trap cards
that are banned, and one of the most skillful banned
cards on the list. Solemn Judgment!
Solemn Judgment allows you to pay half of your Life
Points to negate a Summon of a monster or the
activation of a Spell/Trap and destroy it. Negate
the wrong card and you lose, but play it wisely and
you can win the game. This is better late in the
game as well when you have lower Life Points cause
the cost decreases. This card is always live and can
win a game if played correctly.

Closing Ban Week, we look at Solemn Judgement.
I love this Trap, and I always have. It's my
second favorite, behind Mirror Force. The
Solemn Family of Traps has grown quite a bit larger
since this card was released. The single thing
about Judgement, in my opinion, that should keep it
Banned, is that while the other Solemn cards require
specific amounts of Lifepoints to use, Judgement
requires only half. As long as you have
Lifepoints (or even say 1) you can use this card,
and that makes it the most powerful. It can be
a huge cost early or mid game when Lifepoints are
still high, but a bargain in a late game situation
when your points are low.
Rating:
5/5 (if legal)

Was a very interesting
all-or-nothing card at first. However, as
cards became more powerful, SJ did too since it
stopped most things. Banning was the only
solution at the end of the day.
One of the main concerns is the
fact that being willing to endure that kind of cost
has been often used in decks which rely on a sole
strategy: burn, autowin, resolving an otk or
protecting a floodgate setup.
