Zoodiac Thoroughblade
Like Whiptail, Zoodiac dominance wouldn’t be
possible without its minions. Zoodiac Thoroughblade
joins Whiptail and Ratpier as the backbone, each
having their own exceptional effects. Regardless of
whether or not you run other Zoodiacs, or Maxx C,
Kaijus, Metalfoes, Coach Captain Bearman, or
whatever, as long as you run this nine-card engine
(plus TopTak while it’s legal), you’re going to have
success.
In my imagination, my belief is that Konami made
certain Zoodiac cards to be utterly broken on
purpose (Ratpier, Barrage, etc.) and then when they
were filling out the rest of the archetype, they
just decided, “What the heck? We’ve come this far.
Give some others stupid good effects, too.” So they
made Thoroughblade and let him thin the deck with
some discard and draw power, and heaven help you if
you have a 0 DEF token out there.
Thoroughblade’s future is dictated pretty much like
the rest of the Zoodiac monsters. Outside of
Whiptail, there’s no future for them outside of the
Zoodiac theme, as they are too specifically
dependent on one another. And since Zoodiacs are
already considered to be nefarious and since the
theme is complete (the Zodiac has 12 signs and all
of them have been made into monsters already), I
can’t imagine they’d ever be revisited.
