Abyss Actor – Sassy Rookie
This monster is so disappointing. Abyss Actor –
Sassy Rookie is one of those monsters where you just
shake your head at the little line of text that
ruins all the other things going for it. Sort of
like the difference between “you can’t special
summon after playing this” versus “you can’t special
summon during the turn you play this.” Sassy Rookie
lacks the harmony with Metalfoes and pretty much the
rest of his own archetype that his colleagues have
simply because he protects himself from destruction
once per turn, and you have no choice in the matter.
Not only that, but his recruiter effect can’t get
another copy of himself. Speaking of which, why did
that become such a bad thing in Yu-Gi-Oh? Monsters
used to be able to special summon other copies of
itself from the deck all the time!
But I shouldn’t say it’s “so” disappointing because
Sassy Rookie is still really good. He just doesn’t
have the great monster effect that other Abyss
Actors do. His pendulum effects are amazing, and
provide a bit of steely protection for one-turn
kills that most archetypes don’t have, especially
late game. His high attack is a plus, as well. Most
monsters with protection-like effects are usually in
the range of 0-500 ATK. He’s filler, but he’s
upper-tier filler and most decks run three copies of
him. You should, too.
