Predaplant Moray Nepenthes
- #INOV-EN007
This card gains 200 ATK for each Predator Counter on the field. When this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can equip that monster to this card. Once per turn: You can target 1 Monster Card equipped to this card by this card's effect; destroy it, and if you do, gain LP equal to its original ATK.

Predaplant Moray Nepenthes
As discussed yesterday, one of the main abilities of
Predaplants is to take advantage of monsters with
debilitating counters on them that were given by
other Predaplants. They fall in line with the Alien
archetype, but are much more flexible. Unfortunately
Predaplant Moray Nepenthes does not match the more
potent effects of his successors.
Moray is limited by his own effect in that
realistically the most ATK he can expect to gain is
around 600 ATK (if you’re lucky). So being a 2200
ATK beater that occasionally gets to suck up
opponent monsters and gain lifepoints is hardly
worth mentioning. This isn’t to mention that
destroying monsters by battle isn’t really
beneficial to the Predaplant theme. Other monsters
(not yet released in the TCG) make much better use
out of opponent monsters with counters on them. Like
stealing them, destroying them, tributing them or
even using them as fusion material. Killing them in
battle and gaining life points is pretty much a
waste, no matter what the monster is that you took!
I’m not a fan of monsters that go against the grain
of the archetype, and this is a prime example of
that. Moray does nothing for the Predaplant theme,
and while he can be used outside of his own
archetype, I can’t imagine he’ll be useful any time
soon. 1600 ATK is wading in waters far too shallow.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Predaplant Moray Nepenthes has potential to grow
into a very strong Level 4.
Plant and DARK support to help it along, PMN has a
better version of Sword Hunter's effect. Destroy and
then attach the destroyed monster to PMN. But,
instead of 200ATK boost, you can boost your LP equal
to the destroyed monsters ATK once you destroy it.
It gains 200ATK per Predator Counter on the field,
but alone it is a decent 1600ATK monster with
potential to gain you back some LP.
I see one issue though with this monster's effect:
“destroy”. Any monster that gets an effect off
destruction will activate, then it can activate
again when it is destroyed via PMR's effect. While
monsters that must hit the grave won't be a worry
for this card, there are monsters that could pose a
problem. Despite that, this monster is a decent
monster and could really help the Plant archetype by
itself.
Could be a fun little card. You should get at least
one use out of the effect.

Predaplant Moray Nepenthes is a Level 4 Dark
Plant-type monster with 1600 Atk and 1000 Def. The
stats are good for a Level 4 monster. Since its
first effect is to add 200 Atk points per Predator
Counter on the field, that Atk score can go from
good to great. The problem arose when I noticed that
this monster couldn't generate its own counters. It
has some other decent effects, but again only really
manageable with Predator Counters on the field.
If Moray Nepenthes destroys a monster by battle, it
can suck it up as an equip. There's no limit to the
number of monsters that can be equipped to it, so
this can effectively remove problem monsters from
the field and grave. The last effect is somewhat
counter intuitive because it destroys a targeted
equipped monster just to gain Life Points equal to
the destroyed monster's original Atk. Gaining Life
Points doesn't win games. Destroying an opponent's
monster with an effect usually results in an effect
for them. If this effect burned the opponent, then
this predator might have had some teeth. As it is,
it's just not worth the pot it broke out of.

Dark
Paladin |
Tuesday
Continuing this week of Predaplant cards, we look at
Moray Nepenthes today. This is a Dark, Plant
(did I mention I prefer my Plants Earth yet, even if
Dark may be 'appropriate' given Predatory nature of
these cards) with 1600 attack and 1000 defense, and
Level 4. 1600 attack is meh on its own for
Level 4, but in combo, for instance, with
yesterday's card, it gains 200 attack per Predatory
counter on the Field. So even just having one
out gives this card a much more respectable 1800
attack. You can equip a Monster this card
destroys in Battle to this card (note can, so if,
for whatever reason, you chose not to, just pointing
out it's not mandatory) Once a turn, you can Target
and destroy a Monster equipped to this card (via its
own effect) and gain Lifepoints equal to the attack
of the card destroyed. I actually like this.
Lifepoint gain, while not the most efficient
strategy in Yugioh, can work, and even if you just
get a boost say once (even maybe 1000 Lifeponts)
that could be big. This card, much like
yesterday, is decent. Not great, but not awful
either.
