Red-Eyes Insight
Man I was really wrong about this card. When I first
read it, I thought this was going to make the
Red-Eyes theme special (finally) – I mean if you go
back and look, Red-Eyes has actually gotten more
total support than Blue-Eyes since the inception of
the game. But has the little brother ever reached
the top? Not really. Outside of the excellent
Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, which can be used in
any dragon deck, Red-Eyes as a theme just can never
seem to excel when it matters most. But when I saw
Red-Eyes Insight, I was like “There it is. Red-Eyes
is going to do good things now.”
Nope.
Red-Eyes Insight has instead made me realize the
real problem with the entire archetype. It has so
many incredibly slow and restrictive cards. From
normal monsters and gemini monsters to a slew of
traps, Red-Eyes has been burdened by support that is
slower than the new Dark Magician stuff and way, way
slower than what Blue-Eyes got. So, in the end,
Insight just put a Band-Aid on what the real problem
was. It may have provided real search, but all that
search does is get you those slow cards into your
hand faster. And while Blue-Eyes has synchro support
and Dark Magician has XYZ’s, Red-Eyes doesn’t have
any great extra deck support outside of big beastly
fusion monsters that only make sense to summon
through Red-Eyes Fusion, a card that restricts your
summons for the turn! And the support in a cluster
is all a mess. Some Red-Eyes cards aren’t actually
Red-Eyes cards. You can’t search Cards of the Red
Stone for instance. And don’t get me started on the
artist formerly known as Red-Eyes Black Chick.
There’s no good draw power beyond Cards of the Red
Stone, no tuners, no multi-combo plays. Red-Eyes is
just a mess.
But, there are some positives to take from this.
Red-Eyes Black Dragon is a mascot of the game. Dark
Magician and Blue-Eyes may still be the stars, but
everyone knows Red-Eyes and remembers it fondly, so
future support is all but guaranteed. And that’s
where Insight shines, because any good future
support will only make this card better. I can’t
imagine this not being used in any Red-Eyes deck,
and that gives it enormous potential.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Red-Eyes Insight is another search card for the
“Red-Eyes” archetype.
Normal Spell that, at the cost of a “Red-Eyes”
monster, gets you another “Red-Eyes” Spell/Trap.
There are plenty of “Red-Eyes” monsters to discard
with this card, the best being Red-Eyes Wyvern to
give you a free Special Summon at the end of the
turn. This becomes even better if you search out
Red-Eyes Fusion and use it, thinning your deck and
setting up the Special Summon off of Wyvern at the
End Phase. Two “Red-Eyes” traps that will give you
Special Summons are also possible targets, as well
as “Red-Eyes Burn” to do LP damage. The flex you get
with choosing to send from your hand OR deck makes
this card better than most Normal Spell searcher
cards. Direct deck thinning and setting up your
grave plays while adding a resource to potentially
set up more plays is phenomenal. Going the Red-Eyes
Fusion route, you could have a total of 3 monsters
from your deck in the grave, ready for summoning
later on.
