Darklord Superbia

I know I’ve spent the last two days hyping Darklord Superbia in the Darklord theme, but it’s for good reason. He’s the main reason Darklords can get huge boards. Unless you have the perfect hand, you want to get Superbia going before you get your other Darklords going.

Superbia, which means pride, is the kind of card that fittingly demands his own focus. What’s interesting about the new Darklords is that instead of the restrictions on them like the old Darklords that would prevent him being used to its full potential (See Darklord Asmodeus and Darklord Desire), they can all be special summoned, except for Morningstar (thankfully because the deck would have been too broken). Konami was pretty much unabashed in doing this. They wanted to see big boards and knew Superbia was the perfect card already in place. I guess they just waited until power creep caught up to Superbia, a monster ahead of its time.

Superbia also has just as an outstanding future potential now as he did before the new Darklords were released. He’s a dark level 8 monster that can special summon any fairy when brought back from the grave. He’s not once per turn. He has no other restrictions. He can easily be used in a deck without any other Darklords. As I said, he’s a monster out of time, and a day will probably come when he will be abused beyond acceptance.

Darklord Superbia finishes out our look at the newly powered-up Darklord archetype.

One of the oldest Darklords, Superbia has become significantly better with the release of more Darklord monsters. Simple to use, high ATK, and a lot of support behind it, this card is worth running in 3's in the deck. Special from the grave in any way and you get another Darklord Special Summoned in any position you want. At Level 8 and DARK, and Fairy, Superbia is fodder for any of the draw power and support cards for the archetype. Trade-In and bring it back, trigger its effect, get two high level Darklord monsters to Xyz with or overwhelm your opponent. The only thing you can't overlook is if you use a Darklord to copy a Darklord spell/trap to bring Superbia back from the graveyard, you will miss Superbia's timing for its effect.

This is a card that needed support to make it good, and now it is very good in the deck.

I was surprised to discover that Darklord Superbia has not been reviewed in the 5 years since its release. Darklord Superbia is the best Darklord monster and is absolutely necessary at 3. It is a Level 8 Dark Fairy-type monster with 2900 Atk and 2400 Def. Finally, some great stats. And a great effect. When Superbia is Special Summoned from the grave, you can Special Summon a targeted Fairy. Instant plusses to the field that don't often miss timing. Extreme versatility in that the Fairy can be any Level or Rank. No restrictions to how often the effect can activate, so swarms are possible. Transmodify yesterday's card to have a strong beater on board. Lots of great points and splashable in other decks that run Fairies and recursion cards/effects. Get them while they're hot.
