Destruction Sword Memories

Buster Blader support is some of the most confusing in the entire game. It was just so odd when these cards first came out. Like, was anyone really calling for Buster Blader support? And why wasn’t he related to Dark Magician in any way? His early support (if you can call it that) made him seem closely related, but there was nothing in the new batch of cards that recalled that. But I digress. It’s here, and the archetype itself is fun, if not a little weird and perhaps too hopeful that the opponents are all running some dragons.

Destruction Sword Memories is an okay card, but it unfortunately summons the wrong thing. If this trap had helped you to synchro summon Buster Dragon, then we’d be talking about a potential MVP card. Or maybe if it was a spell instead of a trap. But because its second effect summons Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman, it essentially helps you bring out a big beatstick when you need it. And we’re living in a time that demands more from our cards, especially slow trap cards.

My belief is that you’re obviously running this card if you’re playing a Buster Blader deck. It does some really great things, but it definitely doesn’t launch the archetype to new heights. And that’s pretty much the theme of the cards we’re reviewing this week.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Been a while since we had a Buster Blader-themed card on CoTD. Destruction Sword Memories is a more direct way to Special Summon Buster Blader or get his fusion form to the field. Despite only three targets for the discard, in a dedicated deck you'll likely be running three of each, you'll be able to meet the cost. The banish to Special Summon effect is great as a Quick-Effect, allowing for you to recoup a loss on your opponents turn, or go in for the kill on your turn. Banishing the materials for it from the grave also means you'll have your Buster Blader alongside his fusion form. Two Level 7 attackers who could end up becoming a Rank 7 play for you at the end of the turn. No restriction on when to activate the banishing of this card also gives you swarming potential on your turn.

Would be better if it was a Warrior or Dragon monster for the discard cost, but within the archetype its cost won't be too hard to come by.

I wanted this card to be better. I wanted the cost to read "discard 1 card" instead of "discard 1 Destruction Sword card". Getting a Buster Blader monsters straight to the field is nice because the Destruction Sword Fusion is a QuickPlay Spell. I wanted the grave effect to Fusion Summon any Fusion Monster that lists Buster Blader as material instead of only Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman. I wanted the old Destruction Sword monsters to all be Dragon-type so this card would work better in the grave. So many things I wanted for Destruction Sword Memories. It's a good Normal Trap with a good banish from grave effect. They didn't have to worry about any once per turn restrictions because the boss monster this Fusion Summons cannot attack directly. It's absolutely necessary for Buster Blader decks to get out the boss monster reliably, but it's not perfect.
