Happy Father's Day to everyone because everyone
has a father somewhere. This is my first year
celebrating as a proud parent. Today we have the Big
Daddy of the Aesir.
Odin, Father of the Aesir is a Level 10 Light
Fairy-type Synchro Monster with 4000 Atk and 3500
Def. He requires a Nordic Ascendant Tuner monster
and 2 non-tuners to properly Synchro Summon, but
unlike other bosses, he can be summoned by other
ways. It is of course frequently better to summon
him properly first so he can recur himself from the
grave when destroyed. He Special Summons himself
from the grave only if the opponent destroyed him
while face up and only if you have a Nordic
Ascendant Tuner in the grave to banish as cost. Then
you get to draw a card. Drawing cards is always good
and there should always be at least one Nordic
Ascendant tuner in the grave to plus off Odin's
destruction. Of course everything fails to Kaijus.
A slightly contradictory effect Odin possesses is
the ability to become immune to Spell and Trap
effects for no cost. It only lasts until the end of
the turn that the effect is activated, but some
protection is better than none. Since his other
effect brings him back during the End Phase, you
might want to let this other effect go in order to
try to get a draw. In closing, try to summon this
guy through alternate Synchro Summons like King's
Synchro to avoid costly summons and still benefit
from both effects.
Now go turn off that AC, we don't have stock in the
electric company!
Score: 3/5 Drawing cards on destruction should be a
universal boss trait.
Art: 3/5 What is he holding, and what is that hat?

For todays COTD, we're taking a look at Odin,
Father of the Aesir, a level 10 light fairy with
4000 attack and 3500 defence. He's also a synchro
monster, needing 2 non-tuner monsters and 1 Nordic
Ascendent tuner monster. Luckily, there are a few
that fill this role, the best being Vanadis who's
able to summon Odin off of just herself.
Now, what do you get aside from a 4000 attack body?
Well, Once per turn, Odin can make himself
unaffected by spell and trap effects until the end
of the turn. It would have been better as a quick
effect as there aren't many plays the opponent can
make that Odin can deal with otherwise. Secondly, if
he's destroyed by battle or an opponents card
effect, during the end phase you can banish a Nordic
Ascendent from your grave and special summon him.
Then, if he's special summoned by his own effect,
you can draw 1 card.
Both are powerful effects, yet balanced in a way.
Unfortunately, the protection effect doesn't let him
actively respond to threats, and the revival effect
is heavily limited to running a Nordic Ascendent
deck. There was a time when Odin was a competitive
synchro monster, and decks were taking full
advantage of being able to put a 4000 monster on the
field with very little trouble. Those days have
passed now, and the All-father is resting.
Advanced 3/5 He's good for putting pressure on the
opponent, but needs a pure Ascendent deck built
aroun him to take full advantage.

With Father's Day being yesterday, it is only
fitting we review Odin here.
Odin is a level 10 Synchro requiring a Nordic
Ascendant Tuner and 2+ non-Tuners. Once per turn,
you can make this card unaffected by Spell/Trap
effects until the end of the turn. This could of
just honestly been built-in without having to
activate it just to fall into a Solemn Strike, but I
guess you might need cards to boost this guy up as
4000 ATK isn't enough... sarcasm. During the
End Phase, if this card on the field was destroyed
by your opponent, you can banish a Nordic Ascendant
Tuner to revive him. Reviving him is nice
This guy is a good boss monster for a deck, but the
problem is that the deck doesn't summon him with the
greatest of ease and no other deck can make use of
him, so that hurts his score.
Advanced Rating: 2.5/5
