Ancient Gear Hydra
- #SR03-EN002
At the end of the Damage Step, when this card that was Tribute Summoned by Tributing an "Ancient Gear" monster battles an opponent's monster, but the opponent's monster was not destroyed by the battle: You can banish that opponent's monster. If this card was Tribute Summoned by Tributing a "Gadget" monster, it can attack all monsters your opponent controls, once each. If an "Ancient Gear" monster you control attacks, your opponent's Spell/Trap Cards and monster effects cannot be activated until the end of the Damage Step.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Ancient Gear Hydra is a wall-smasher.
Level 7's aren't favorable in the game if they need
to be tributed out to gain their effects. Not only
do you need to Tribute Summon Hydra, but you have to
use an Ancient Gear monster, which limits its
usefulness to the archetype. Inherits the Ancient
Gear lockdown on spell/traps till the end of the
Damage Step. If you did tribute it out using an
Ancient Gear, you can banish any monster it battles
with that still remains on the field after the
battle. Good for beating down walls like Spirit
Reaper, and if you use a card that helps keep Hydra
alive, you can run it into a bigger monster and get
rid of it. Geartown is also helpful in lessening the
cost to summon Hydra, and can even help search it
out, alongside some other archetype support.
If you are going to Tribute Summon monsters in the
Ancient Gear deck, it will be higher attack monsters
that have more support behind them. Hydra likely
won't be finding a spot in the archtype.

Ancient Gear Hydra
Todays card of the day is Ancient Gear Hydra,
another new piece of support from the Machine
Reactor structure deck. Hydra is a level 7 earth
machine with 2700 attack and 1700 defence and comes
with a trio of effects.
Ancient Gear, Level 7, earth and machine are all
supported quite nicely, with a variety of cards able
to be used alongside it. Geartown, Sacred Sword of
Seven Stars and Limiter Removal to name a few.
Hydra's first effect is gained when it's summoned by
tributing an Ancient Gear and when you do, any
monster that battles it and not destroyed is
banished. Its second effect allows Hydra to attack
every monster the opponent has once each every turn,
but only if you tributed a Gadget monster for its
summon. And Hydra's third effect is a blanket effect
for all Ancient Gears, as when ANY Ancient Gear
attacks, Hydra prevents the activation of any card
controlled by the opponent until the end of the
damage step.
Hydra is good support for the theme but won't see
much play outside of a deck built around it or
splashed into a Gadget deck. The art for the monster
itself is rather nifty with three heads for each of
its effects. If Hydra was level 8, it'd be used a
lot more than it is right now.
Advanced 2/5 It's good, but Reactor does the job
better and has a bigger body with a destruction
effect tagged on.
