Hello Pojo Fans,
Ancient Gear Wyvern gives Ancient Gears another
solid attacker beside Ancient Gear Knight, as well
as a little more.
Regardless of summon, Wyvern will search any Ancient
Gear card beside itself. The deck needed another way
of getting more resources to the players hand, so
this is a good thing. Strong ATK, the deck lacked
good support from Level 4 and below. Now with more
Level 4's to run, Rank Summons of 4 are possible.
You are forced to set cards before activating this
effect, otherwise you are locked out until next
turn. Not much of a drawback. Wyvern locks down
monster effects instead of spell/trap, putting a new
spin on the Ancient Gear assault. Flip effects
locked down, destruction effects on the field dealt
with, burn effects like Marshmallon? Wyvern will
save you the 1000LP.
Depending on what this card searches you can combo
with it to get more. Ancient Gear Box off of Wyvern
will get you another low ATK Machine, setting up
Machine Duplication. CoTD during the End Phase
bypasses any of the drawbacks of Wyvern.
It may not lock down spell/traps during an attack,
and that can backfire on you, but the archetype
needed a monster like Ancient Gear Wyvern.

A good searcher is almost officially necessary
for every deck. Ancient Gear Wyvern is a Level 4
Earth Machine-type monster with 1700 Atk and 1200
Def. It's good enough for a Level 4 and better than
average for a searcher. Wyvern gets its ability to
search any Ancient Gear card from the deck to the
hand after it is Normal or Special Summoned. There
is a minor drawback in that you cannot set cards for
the rest of the turn, but activating is better so do
that instead. Or you can Special Summon Ancient Gear
Wyvern during your opponent's turn, gain the effect,
and Set cards the next turn. The Ancient Gear effect
on Wyvern blocks activated monster effects when it
attacks. The search effect is once per turn and
completely free. The attack effect doesn't stop
Spells or Traps, but that is still good as well.
Ancient Gear Wyvern is only good in its own deck.
Since that deck needs good searchers, Wyvern will
score well. Too bad it wasn't named Ancient Gear
Gadget Wyvern, but yeah, that might be too much.

Ancient Gear Wyvern
Todays card is Ancient Gear Wyvern, an angry looking
clockwork monster at level 4 with 1700 attack and
1200 defense. This level 4 earth machine is one of 2
pieces of support that Ancient Gears sorely needed.
Wyvern's first effect triggers whenever it's normal
or special summoned once per turn. And when it does,
you can add any Ancient Gear card, except itself, to
your hand from your deck. However you can't set any
cards for the rest of the turn. Its second effect
goes off whenever it attacks and it stops your
opponent from activating any monster effects until
the end of the damage step.
Wyvern is versatile and allows the deck to move
faster than it could before, all with a nice 1700
body aswell. Preventing monster effects in battle is
handy too, allowing it to stop honest and flip
effect monsters to name two.
Advanced 3/5 It's great support for the archetype,
but not much use elsewhere.
