As my week continues
(^_^), we look at a powerhouse, Jirai Gumo.
Card Text:
Earth/Insect/4/2200/100
Effect:
When you attack with this card, toss a coin and
call it. If you call it right, attack normally. If
you call it wrong, reduce your Life Points by half
before attacking.
Analysis:
I flipped the wrong
coin with this guy, so I didn't have enough LP to
review Dark Elf last week, but I
can review this guy.
This guy is a
powerhouse, plain and simple. 2200 attack
power for Level 4 is second in the entire
game (the first is 2300 attack power, in a future
set). However, ALL Level 4 monsters with an
attack power over 1900 have some kind of side
effect. Dark Elf has the required LP cost.
The future card must be switched to defense mode
after it attacks. Jirai Gumo forces you to
flip to see your fate.
This card is best used
in decks that already require a lot of LP-choming
cards (Dark Elf, Seven Tools, Solemn Judgement).
Since you'll be using a lot of LP anyways, a bad
flip with Jirai won't hurt as much. He's
also good late game, either in a tough spot where
you have low LP, or as a final push for victory.
Of course, the most
entertaining use is to just stick him out there in
attack mode and don't attack. With 2200
attack power, not much will take it out.
Guard your LP!
Combos:
Jirai Gumo + Dark
Elf = Dark Elf will deplete your LP so
you won't lose as much from a negative effect,
plus they work together as an overwhelming attack
force.
Jirai Gumo + stacked
coin = You win.
Counters:
Murphy's Law: Anything
that can go wrong, will go wrong.
Should YOU
play it?
It couldn't hurt to
sideboard at least one of these critters for the
added offensive boost. It destroys ANY
current Level 4 monster (including the 2000
defense walls).
Score:
I
will give Jirai Gumo a 3.3 as
well. It's very powerful, but a bad coin
flip can set you back up to 4000 LP! Another
card I plan to run in my first sanctioned tourney.
