Fun week continues with........

Sogen

Tourney Play: 1
Casual Play: 4
Overall: 2.5

Pros:
-Powers up mons that aren't normally played so if your playing in a tourney then you don't have to worry about anyone else getting the power up.
-This card helps things like battle ox and Judgeman.

Cons:
-Reverse trap can own it
-De-spell can own it
-it only helps battle ox and judgeman in competive play

RFP: Battle Ox is the only card that everyone plays that this card could screw you on. Judgeman isn't really popular, but he is still there. I personally don't like field magic, because they help your oppenent too.  It does give battle ox a boost over la jinn, and it makes Judgeman, but this card still isn't that great.

RFC: Well since it is a magic card de-spell will get rid of it. Leaving the only two mons that this card really helps back into there normal attack and defense. Although again, I dont think your oppenent is going to waste a de-spell on a sogen, when they can use the de-spell on a swords of revealing light. Another card that destroys the whole purpose of sogen is reverse trap. Reverse trap will make that battle ox a weak 1500 monster, and that judgeman a version of sword stalker. And are 1500 lvl 4's good? no, and are 2000 lvl 5 or 6's good? Again the answer is no. So therefore reverse trap again makes this card lose its purpose. And finally this card only helps 2 playable cards, while yami helps 5. Bear in mind I don't like field magic, because it is a waste of space and all you really need right now is reinforcements.

Combos:

Sogen with warrior or beast warrior mon: this is quite obvious...=/

Um yea this card doesn't really have any combos. Its just a power up card thats its only purpose. Well cya tomorrow. As always good luck and happy dueling.

Wednesday - Sogen

Increases the ATK and DEF of all Beast-Warrior and Warrior-Type monsters vy 200 points. It's similar to Yami and all those other Field Magic cards, except it targets different monsters.

The problem with Sogen is that there isn't a big pool of Beast-Warrior and Warrior monsters. The reason why Yami is fairly playable. Some playable Beast-Warrior and Warrior monsters that come to mind are Battle Ox and Judge Man. Sogen isn't worth adding for just those two cards though.

With the release of later sets, that and other Field Magic cards, may have a little more potential.

Rating: 1.5/5

…Sogen? … OK, it powers up Battle Ox… And that one card with 1500 ATK… Hmmm ;/ Well let’s just say, don’t play this. =/

Overall Score: 1.5
Casual Play: 1.5
Tournament Play: 1.5

Bleh.  There are only three decent cards that this thing benefits: Judge Man, Battle Ox, and Flame Swordsman.  (sorry Gaia and Celtic Guardian fans).  Other than that, it's not very good.  Nothing is stopping you from using Yami to pump up Neo and La Jinn.  And 200 attack points won't be a gamebreaker.  Sure, now Battle Ox can take out La Jinn, but you've got to get both cards on the field at the same time first, and there aren't enough worthy Warrior cards out yet.  Just you wait until later sets, particularly Struggle of Chaos, because then, Warriors will become VERY useful.

Combos:

Sogen + Battle Ox = Nighty night La Jinn.

Counters:

Yami: Currently, the superior field card, although field cards are overrated.

De-Spell: Bye bye.

Casual/Tournament Play:
Enh.  No.

Verdict:
o_o forget it.

Metal Raiders:
Not much in support here.  Sorry =(

TOMORROW'S COTD: Trap Master.  Part of a useful anti-Trap Hole combo.

Melkor

Continuing with the best cards in the game, we have my personal favorite - Sogen! Actually, this card is pretty down there on my list of favorites. I've never used it in a deck, nor do I ever intend to. Why? Well, it's...sorta kinda horrible. Well, it's not so much horrible as it is useless.

Let's be honest, have you ever seen anyone even somewhat good play a beast/warrior deck? I sure haven't. To be frank, there's just not enough good ones. There are basically two that see play, Battle Ox and Judge Man. A field card devoted to powering them up is inefficient. Mayhaps in later sets, we'll see some more good cards in this sub-type. For now, store it somewhere far away from your deck. Other than that, there's not much to say. Field cards in general are pretty bad right now, and Sogen is a step below Yami. Anyway, enough rambling.

Rating - 1.2 - Don't use it, even in casual play.
