We're at the halfway
mark of our first week of Magic Ruler, and we
stumble across a Japanese staple card, Cyber
Jar.
Card Text:
Dark/Rock/3/900/900
Effect:
FLIP:
Destroy all monsters on the field (including this
monster). both players then pick up (not Draw) 5
cards from the top of their respective Decks and
show the cards to each other. Immediately Special
Summon any Monster Cards of Level 4 or lower among
them on the field in face-up Attack Position or
face-down Defense Position. The rest of the cards
picked up are placed in the player's hand.
Analysis:
Wow, now this is a
really long effect! (Relinquished,
which we will review in October, currently has the
longest English effect.) They translated all
of the extended rulings for Cyber Jar, which means
this card is more accurate and precise than the
Japanese version. Konami did something right
with the translation for once =P (Come to
think of it, they did Relinqushed correctly too, I
think.)
This is a really fun
card to use.
Its effect is basically
a Dark Hole, destroying all
monsters on the field. (This is enough to
restrict it to 1 in Japan.) Not only that, but
both players pick up the top 5 cards of their deck,
summon all Level 1-4 monsters, and the rest go to
your hand. You can create some really
favorable situations with this card. If you
have a Raigeki and Heavy
Storm in your hand, for example, then flip
summon this card, you can literally win the game if
you get enough strong monsters from Cyber Jar.
This effect also allows
you to get more monsters out for your really heavy
hitters to Tribute for, like Summoned Skull,
Barrel Dragon, and Blue-Eyes
White Dragon. Your opponent can do
the same, but if you play it correctly, they are
toast.
You can also put down a
lot of effect monsters, too. Your opponent
will know it's coming (since you have to show them
the cards), but that could actually work to your
advantage, as they may not attack, for fear of
activating a flip effect. Just keep a Magic
Jammer or two handy and it's all gravy.
It also counters Exodia.
Force them to play at least 1 Exodia part on the
field, and it's game over unless they use Hane-Hane
or can somehow get you with the really obscure Penguin
Knight (if you discard it from your
opponent's deck, they shuffle their graveyard into
their deck).
I assure you, this card will
be restricted to 1 per deck when the new English
rulings are released. If not, expect heads to
roll =P
Should YOU play
it?
If you can get your
hands on one (it's only a Normal Rare),
play it, unless you are running Exodia.
Score:
Cyber Jar gets a 4.3.
Unlike Axe of Despair, however,
this card is a definite deck staple for almost any
deck (for the third time, don't use this with an
Exodia deck). It will be restricted to 1, so
you only need to get 1 of them.
