Super Rare
Field Magic
As long as this card remains face up on the field, all effects of magic, trap and/or effect monster cards that involve graveyards are negated and neither player can remove cards in the graveyard from play. In addition, increase the ATK and DEF of all monsters that includes “Gravekeeper’s” in their card name by 500 points.

Lots of uses for this card, but I’d only be willing to use it in a Necrovalley Deck.

Necrovalley decks are decks that focus around Necrovalley (obviously), using the “Gravekeeper’s” monsters, and using the Necrovalley specific cards. This deck can be fairly powerful when used correctly, and several cards require Necrovalley to play (or aren’t effected by it, as stated in the effect texts – great for you to pull against an opponent.)

However, this card isn't just for random play in any deck. Its not designed to be just slotted in.

5/5 in a necrovalley deck – it’s the heart and soul
1.5/5 elsewhere – just shouldn’t be used casually
DuelMonster Wednesday - Necrovalley (The Sleeping Valley Of The Pharaoh):

PGD-084-Super Rare
Magic Card: Field
Effect: As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all effects of Magic, Trap, and/or Effect Monster Cards that involve Graveyards are negated and neither player can remove cards in the Graveyards from play. In addition, increase the ATK and DEF of all monsters that includes "Gravekeeper’s" in their card name by 500 points.

Well, this card still has me confused. I'm still unsure on what it does and doesn't negate. I've heard several people disagree about it effecting cards like Sinister Serpent, Sangan and others. If Necrovalley negates anything that manipulates the graveyard in any way as well as anything that is triggered being sent to the graveyard or has an effect while in the graveyard, then it's an Anti-Many effect, although "Sending to the graveyard", "discard to the graveyard"... while these do have the word "graveyard" in it, it does not fall under what Necrovalley negates, so Kuriboh, Electric Snake, Minar and other cards should still get their effects.

I would love to write a longer review and get really in depth with the effects and all, but I still don't know the true powers and limits to Necrovalley. I would like to make more of an Anti-Deck Deck with it rather than a Gravekeeper's Deck, but I'll have to wait and see how thing get ruled.

ArtWork: 1.5 - A bit lame looking for an intricate effect field card, I do think those are two pyramids off in the distance though.
Pegasus Necrovalley, 8/13/03:

Ah, Necrovalley. This is the single card that's going to cause the most ruling problems in PGD out of ALL of PGD. I swear.

Some people think this card's supposed to negate every card with "graveyard" in its effect. That doesn't work. Because it would mean that it would negate itself. Meaning it wouldn't negate itself. Meaning it would. Etc. etc.

The CORRECT way to play this card is that neither player can take cards out of their cemetery (or each other's cemetery). I.e. Kycoo's removing effect doesn't work, you can't revive, etc. etc. It does NOT negate cards that discard (Magic Jammer, Tribute to the Doomed)

And then there's the ATK bonus to the Gravekeepers. I like this ATK bonus because it applies ONLY to Gravekeepers, meaning if you run a Gravekeeper deck and your opponent doesn't, you get the bonus exclusively. Meaning Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier is a nice handy 2000 ATK trampling monster. Chief becomes 2400 ATK. Cannonholder becomes 1900 ATK.

This card also has some built-in combos with A Cat of Ill Omen and An Owl of Luck. Additionally, having Gravekeeper's Chief on the field negates Necrovalley's effect to YOUR graveyard, so it only affects your opponent's graveyard. How cool is that? Your opponent can't revive, retrieve cards with MoF or MoD, or summon Dark Necrofear and the other elementals.

To truly rate this card I'd have to rate Gravekeeper decks as a whole, so that's what this rating really means. With this card's ATK bonus, the Gravekeepers become really nice monsters.

*insert clever opening line here* Anyway, today is a card that is worth the review, Necrovalley. Obviously, this card is a staple of grave keeper decks. The Grave keeper’s often have some nifty effects, but lacked on attack. This solves that by giving a decent 500 attack boost and to defense to boot. Also the Graveyard blockage is annoying as heck. No monster reborn, rope of life, call of the haunted, premature burial, or other recursion. This also blocks magician of Faith and Mask of Despair, if you still run those. Also my interpretation of this is that it would block Witch’s and Sangan’s effects as well…the horror. This card is just plain annoying on its own, and added with Grave keepers its evil. And to top it off, you can use gravekeeper’s chief to turn the effect on your opponent alone. Necrovalley is also used with Cat of ill omen to move a trap to your hand, handy if your run a rind deck, and Royal tribute.

PGD-084
Field Magic
As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all effects of Magic, Trap and/or Effect Monsters that involve Graveyards are negated and neither player can remove cards in the Graveyards from play. In addition, increase the ATK and DEF of all monsters that includes "Gravekeeper's" in their card name by 500 points.

Here's is one card that will get misunderstood from here to Timbuktu (wherever that is). It's annoying (if used against you), it's fun (if you're using it) and it's a killer in a Gravekeeper deck.

First off, let's get all the misinterpretations of this card out of the way:

1. "involve Graveyards" means cards that manipulate the Graveyard in any way. Having the word "Graveyard" in the card text does not necessarily mean it's negated. So Monster Reborn, Call of the Haunted, Premature Burial, Soul Release, Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer, Bazoo the Soul-Eater, Spear Cretin, Backup Soldier, Fiber Jar, Mystical Knight of Jackal and whole slew of other cards won't work. You also won't be able to summon monsters like Dark Necrofear (who's doesn't come back from the Graveyard if destroyed while Necrovalley is active), The Rock Spirit or other similar monsters.

2. I know I've said it in the forums before, but that was before I heard back from UDE, but cards that are triggered by being sent to the Graveyard, do in fact, work. I apologize for my previous mistake. So, Witch of the Black Forest, Sangan, Mystic Tomato etc all still work. (This makes me sad... sniff)

3. Cards that get their effects while in the Graveyard also do not work. Sinister Serpent, Marie the Fallen One and Helpoemer do not work.

Now, onto the actual review. I love this card. This is easily the best Field Magic card around. It's such a debilitating card. Most decks have anywhere from 3-10 cards that get negated by Necrovalley with the average, I would guess, around 6. No monster revival, no powerups for Bazoo, no Magician of Faith, no Fiber Jar, no Sinister Serpent... this breaks so many decks. Of course, since it's a field magic, it hurts you as well but if you construct your deck around this and build a Gravekeeper deck, you'll barely even notice.

+500 ATK and DEF for all Gravekeepers makes most of them into unbeatable killing machines (or impenetrable defenses). Gravekeeper's Assailant (which is my favorite Gravekeeper), Spear Soldier, Spy, Guard and Chief all become formidable monsters.

The biggest downside to this card is that it's a Field Magic. That means, if you come up against a Legendary Ocean deck, you might be in for some hard times if you can't keep Necrovalley alive. This card also requires a lot of support cards (thus the Gravekeeper deck), after all, you can't kill someone with a Field Magic.

This is an excellent card but only truly shines in a Gravekeeper deck. Using this card outside of a Gravekeeper deck is possible but risky. It requires skillful deckbuilding with a minimum of Graveyard effects. Also note, in Japan, they've released new sets up to 307 (North America is currently up to 301) and there are NO upgrades to Gravekeeper decks in them so this might not be something you want to play long term.
