Thursday - Raigeki Break
PGD-096
Trap Card:
Effect: Discard 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard to destroy 1 card on the field.
Most of you know how I feel about card disadvantage, wasting two cards in order to destroy one target never gets my attention. It's no different here.
As versatile as Raigeki Break may seem, it really isn't as playable as you'd think. The obvious reason, that I already mentioned, is that you lose two cards in your hand in order to get the effect. Instantly what comes to mind is Sinister Serpent, but then you have to take Jinzo into account. Don't tell yourself he won't show up often because, against experienced players, he will be Summoned and Special Summoned multiple times. Whether it's yours or your oppnent's.
But all in all, Raigeki Break isn't as bad as 90% of the Trap cards out there. And that's definitely saying something. Just make sure you have Sinister Serpent to back it up, or else the card disadvantage will completely set you up for Yata-Garasu locks and the like.

Raigeki Break
PGD-096
Common
Normal Trap
Discard one card from your hand to the graveyard to destroy one card on the field.
Nice. Really, really nice. Is this card specific? No. No it is not. Why is that good? Because it means that this card is usable against permanent traps, continuous magic, anything face down, monsters…
Basically, anything on the field, as stated in the card (even your own stuff, if it comes to that).
This is a phenomenal card. Raigeki? Raigeki Break. Any magic? Raigeki Break. Necrovalley? (see yesterdays COTD) Raigeki Break.
So many uses, so little time.
This card is so versatile, it could be used anywhere.
4.5/5 – it doesn’t deserve a perfect rating, but its still damned good. |

Thursday - Raigeki Break (Thunder Break):
PGD-096-Short Print
Trap Card:
Effect: Discard 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard to destroy 1 card on the field.
This was the first card from PGD to go into my deck, this card kicks. Most people compare it to Tribute To The Doomed but it's allot better I think. TttD may be quicker since it's Magic and you don't have to wait a turn to activate it, but Raigeki Break can be used to destroy ANY card on the field not just monsters. The only thing better about TttD is that it can be used to destroy Jinzo and be activated while Jinzo is out. Remember though, it can't/doesn’t negate cards it destroys, so you can't chain it to the activation of regular M/T, but obviously it works well against Permanent M/T. Also like other M/T removal cards, if it targets something like Waboku, Scapegoat, Jar Of Greed, Backup Soldier, MST, RoD or even their own Raigeki Break, the opponent can activate them as Raigeki Break targets them.
I would think the same goes for Exiled Force or Cannon Soldier as long as it's their turn.
I know at the moment with the rise of Hand Disruption Decks and Yata-Locks, most people don't like cards that require you to discard, but if you have a Sinister Serpent handy or some Marie The Fallen Ones, which I began using allot more now, this card can save your butt. Would you rather have one less card in your hand and destroy the opponents Yata, or would you rather not get any more cards in your hand and slowly die? I've even used this card to destroy my own Gravity Bind to attack with Kycoo for the win, so it didn't matter what I had to discard. It does suck to not have any cards in hand when you really need to use it, but we all know how that goes because most of use or used Magic Jammer at one point or another.
With it being Short-Print/Super-Short-Print, it's almost harder to get a hold of then a regular Rare card, most of the time you'll only find one Raigeki Break per-box, but if you do have one, I’d suggest using it. It was rated 22/100 in last years top 100 Japanese cards (compiled by Edo), and I've already seen people in my area loving it. I personally wouldn't play more than one in a deck, but as long as you can find use for it, and discarding won't hurt too much, then play as many as you need, and no, unlike Raigeki, this card will never be restricted.

Raigeki Break, 8/14/03:
This is one of the most versatile cards in duel monsters. There is only ONE other card (including Japanese) that has the capability to destroy one card on the field, regardless of type. And that is XYZ Dragon Cannon. XYZ's a lot harder to summon than this card is to activate, though. All you have to do is discard a card! Sinster Serpent, anyone?
An especially evil combo is if you activate this card during the standby phase while you have a sinister serpent in your hand. The serpent will come back during THAT standby phase. So guess what happens if you set three of these babies, and activate them all during the standby phase? :)
That's right. One Raigeki Break will discard Sinster Serpent, you destroy a card, Sinister Serpent comes back (the Standby phase isn't over), you chain another one to Sinister Serpent's effect, discard Sinister Serpent, destroy a card, Sinister Serpent comes back, you chain the third one to Sinister Serpent's effect, discard Sinister Serpent, destroy a card, Sinister Serpent comes back - all during the same standby phase. It's a completely even trade: you lose three m/ts from the field, and your opponent loses 3 cards from the field.
Besides that, you could discard something like a barrel dragon and then revive it.
Unfortunately, it's a trap, so Jinzo negates it, yada yada yada. But since it doesn't have an activation requirement, you can chain this card to anything that destroys it, and destroy a card on the field. Nice.

I really need to stop writing these so late at night @_@. Anyway this card is fairy self explanatory. Use it when you have sinister serpent in your hand, and you get free destruction. Discarding from your hand in a game that focuses more and more on hand disruption can be painful though. What’s nice is this card is not limited, it can destroy monster, magic, and trap. Just to clarify this card DOES NOT negate.

Thursday 08/14/03: Raigeki Break
PGD-096
Normal Trap
Discard 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard to destroy 1 card on the field.
Why did they have to name it "Raigeki Break"? I don't really like the name change. Anyways, here's Tribute to the Doomed's (TttD) big brother. It's not even close to power compared to Raigeki but it is very useful.
Destroying any card on the field is excellent. Unlike TttD, you can destroy more than just monsters, you can take out ANY card on the field, whether it's face-up or down, attack position or defense position, your side of the field or your opponent's. Of course, the only exception is Jinzo since it negates this. Pinned down by Imperial Order? Use this instead of a Dust Tornado (which hardly anyone uses) to get rid of it.
Having to discard a card can be lethal to yourself unless you have Sinister Serpent or at least share the pain with your opponent by using Forced Requisition. This is a trap card so it's slow but it's also chainable and usable on your opponent's turn which means you can kill nasty things like Yata-Garasu.
I really like this card, the versatility makes it very playable. Personally, the only card I fear is Imperial Order so I have been known to put this into my deck from time to time. I was most surprised to see this wasn't a rare or a super rare. Not everyone can make room in their decks for this card but it's certainly worth considering.
