Wednesday - Dark Room of Nightmare
PGD-082-Super Rare
Magic Card: Continuous
Effect: Each time you inflict damage other than Battle
Damage to your opponent’s Life Points, inflict 300
points of Direct Damage to your opponent’s Life
Points. This card’s effect is not applied to the
effect of “Dark Room of Nightmare”.
Honestly, this card is utterly terrible. Not only is
it a very weak topdeck, but it also doesn't give you
any real advantage. And as we all know, everyone runs
Mystical Space Typhoon, Harpie's Feather Duster, and
Heavy Storm. Your opponent will thank you for such an
easy target. Which means that you'll get to use the
effect of Dark Room of Nightmare for only a short
amount of time. But hell, most of the time your
opponent won't even need to destroy your Dark Room of
Nightmare. My reasoning for this is simple, the card
doesn't do much of anything.
Even if you're running a strict Direct Damage based
deck, stay far away from this card. It does nothing to
prevent you from losing the game, all it does is give
you a very small benefit. Which won't mean much
against an experienced opponent.
There are a few casual combos you can pull of with
this card, but none of which will win you the
Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championships. Plenty said.

Dark Room of Nightmare:
PGD-082-Super Rare
Magic Card: Continuous
Effect: Each time you inflict damage other than Battle
Damage to your
opponent’s Life Points, inflict 300 points of Direct
Damage to your
opponent’s Life Points. This card’s effect is not
applied to the effect of
"Dark Room of Nightmare".
At first I didn't really think this card was all that
good, then I thought
about using a couple in a Fire Princess Burner Deck or
any Burner Deck for that matter, it would make Fire
Princess do 800 instead of 500, and if you get 2 DRoM
out she'll do 1100, and then if you happen to get
several Fire Princesses out with multiple Solemn
Wishes or Marie The Fallen Ones going it will cause
major damage very quickly. Adding an extra 300/600/900
(not like you'll get 3 out at once often) per burn
card really stacks up quick, you can try playing it in
combination with so many cards, like Coffin Seller
making it cause 600 damage every time one of their
monsters go to the Graveyard, and it turns Hinotama
into an Ookazi and an Ookazi into an even stronger
burner.
I've already seen people get confused with the whole
"This card’s effect is not applied to the effect of
"Dark Room of Nightmare".", but that's just so if
someone had two active it wouldn't cause a constant
burning cycle of one triggering the other then the
other triggering the first and back and forth, that
would be pretty sick if it worked that way, good thing
it doesn't.
If you do plan to build a Dark Burning Room Deck, you
have to think about what actually causes damage and
what just causes players to pay LP, like Toll and
Chain Energy won't work with DRoN but Burning Land and
Dark Snake Syndrome will (I think). If you were to
play it with Dark Snake Syndrome you and your opponent
would be loosing LP every turn but they would be
loosing 300-600 more, so it really can help out more
than expected. I know most people don't play Burner
Decks nowadays, at least in my area, but this card can
somewhat work in other decks a little, I mean most
people are going to be playing RoD and Magic Cylinder,
but they are restricted so there's not much of a point
to play DRoN if those are the only 2 cards in your
deck that
cause direct damage.
If you play a Cannon Soldier, Amazon Archer, Catapult
Turtle, Giant Germ, Gravekeeper's Vassal,
Gravekeeper's Curse, Gravekeeper's Cannonholder, Dice
Jar, Mask Of Dispel, Mask Of Accursed, Black Pendant,
Bad Reaction, Just Deserts, Barrel Behind the Door,
Nightmare Wheel, or any of the other cards I mentioned
earlier and much more, Dark Room Of Nightmare may be
that bonus damage you've been looking for. In the
future there will be better burn cards coming out so
this card may do a bit better then than it does now.
Personally I would love to play it in a Fire Princess
Deck but I don't have the time or patients to
construct one, maybe someday.

shadow of somebody torturing another, it almost looks
like a Gravekeeper's Guard whipping a Frontier
Wiseman, but who knows?

Lets just get right to the review. No fancy
explanation on things that I’ve done (scough school
cough).

After instantly looking at this card, we can tell that
it is meant to be played in one type of deck: Burner.
Even then, this isn’t a great card to use. Its best to
maximize your options, and have deck space for BETTER
cards. In reality, this card is just not worth it in
the long run. Sure 300 extra damage is nice, but there
is just better stuff to play out there. If you
seriously want to run a Burner type Deck, play a Magic
card that could better benefit your deck. Messenger of
Peace could work out nicely. Other then that, this
card gets:

Ok, Ok, my mind is finally working well enough for me
to do cotd this week. Well our so called week of
darkness continues with this super rare out of PGD.
Well if you run a burner or Lava golem deck, this card
might be out to use. If not, this card should be
collecting dust in your binders. Unfortunately, 300 LP
is not much, I think this card would be most effective
in a Fire Princess burn, in which the stalling, and
multiple direct damage per turn can utilize this card
to its maximum. Next to that I’d say lava golem is the
most effective. With Lava golem the point is to get it
out and block it from attacking, add to this another
300, while not much surely makes it quicker. This
works well with Nightmare wheel where it then does 800
per turn and blocks the monster. Or…Lava Golem +
Nightmare Wheel + Dark Room of Nightmare = 1800 damage
per turn, not to shabby. This card could
also eek its way into a gravekeeper deck thanks to
Grave Keepers Vassal.
And of course here is always catapult turtle, Cannon
soldier, etc.
Especially nice when Magical Scientist arrives in the
upcoming Magician’s Force Set

Wednesday 08/20/03: Dark Room of Nightmare
PGD-082
Continuous Magic
Each time you inflict damage other than Battle Damage
to your opponent's Life Points, inflict 300 points of
Direct Damage to your opponent's Life Points. This
card's effect is not applied to the effect of "Dark
Room of Nightmare".
Here's a card that has some possibilities in the right
deck.
300 points of additional damage each time you do
damage other than battle damage doesn't seem like much
and it isn't...in most decks. However, in a deck such
as a Fire Princess deck where you can have multiple
"direct damage events" per turn, it can really hurt
your opponent.
Consider this:
3 Marie the Fallen Ones + 1 Fire Princess
Each turn you get 3 life gaining events which triggers
Fire Princess 3 times for a total of 3 times that you
do damage. Fire Princess will already do 500LP damage
per event which totals 1500LP. Dark Room of Nightmare
adds 300LP to each event which is another 900LP
damage. 2400LP damage per turn is pretty good and your
opponent won't live very long at this pace.
You could use this in other burner combos but none of
them have multiple burner events like Fire Princess
does so this card makes less of an impact with them.
I would find it hard to make room in a burner deck for
this. It's not a bad card but really doesn't work well
in anything but a Fire Princess deck.
