Tuesday - Book of Life
Today, we're going to look at a Zombie-exclusive recursion card, which I feel to be the most broken recursion card in the entire game.
PGD-033
BOOK OF LIFE
Normal Magic
Special Summon 1 Zombie-Type monster from your Graveyard in face-up Attack
or Defense Position and remove 1 monster in your opponent’s Graveyard from play.
Super Rare
Basically, what we have here is a free Monster Reborn for Zombies PLUS half of a Kycoo effect. Revive your Spirit Reaper, Royal Keeper, or your (already successfully summoned) Fushioh Richie, and remove your opponent's Jinzo, Witch of the Black Forest, Sinister Serpent, etc. What's not to like about it?
Two downsides, though:
1. It only works with Zombies
Basically, that means that you'll have to build a Zombie deck to get the most out of this card. A good one CAN be built right now, but it's not that easy =/
2. Kycoo negates it
I'm not entirely sure about this, but since it removes monsters from the Graveyard, I would assume Kycoo would negate it. He may just negate the removal part, but he might negate the whole thing =/
Score:
5.0 in a Zombie deck
2.0 in a non-Zombie deck (you can revive Spirit Reaper! :\) |

Normal Magic:

This is a very limited use card at the moment, as I stated in yesterdays review, Zombie monster are one of the most uncommon type of monsters released, and not many of them are worth playing even in an all Zombie Deck. The good thing though, is if you do use Book Of Life in a descent Zombie Deck it can be insanely powerful. It's like basic recursion (but only for zombies) with added bonus of removing a monster from your opponents Graveyard.
Beside there not being too many Zombies out to use this card enough, I would assume you can't activate it while there is a Kycoo on your opponents field, since part of the effect is Graveyard removal the entire effect cannot be used. So besides Kycoo, Jowgen will stop Book Of Life from activating as well as the usual anti-magics like Magic Jammer/Drain and Imperial Order.
Personally, I think Book Of Life should have been Super-Short Print and Raigeki Break should have been Super Rare. I won't use this card for at least 2 more sets, and even then I probably will have something better in its place.

ArtWork: 3.5 - I looked at the hieroglyphics of all three books and they all say the same thing, I think... and as I posted in my review of Book Of Moon, they say something like " to set down or lay life on land" so it works for the most part. |

Book of Life, 8/5/03:
Another card that's only useful in a Zombie deck. This card's effect doesn't make a lot of sense until you realize that the card's stealing the life-energy of one of your opponoent's monsters in the graveyard, and giving it to one of your monsters. Sorta. Lol.
Anyway, the ability to revive any Zombie (except Dark Dust Spirit and maybe Fushioh Richie) is really nice, especially since there's no drawback. I'm not sure whether this card requires that there be a monster in your opponent's graveyard, but even if it does it'll still be really useful. In a zombie deck. Kinda pointless anywhere else.

Hrm… Whoa. Life can be so great at times ;). What better way to celebrate life then review the card…. Book of Life! Ha…ha? Well, I didn’t think it was that funny, but yeah =/. I’ve been a bit busy and lazy for a while, and now I’m back to start reviewing.
Pharanoic Guardian is a set based around Zombies. These decks are supposed to get a huge boost, and here is a prime example. Book of the Life is a great card that should be used in ANY Zombie deck, no question. It’s a card that can help bring back your main focus, and even hurt your opponent’s strategy. Any other deck shouldn’t use this card, because you wouldn’t be playing any Zombie cards anyways =/. This card is crippled when you don’t have any available Zombie Monsters in the graveyard, but of course, you don’t want that to happen. At the moment, I wouldn’t recommend playing a Zombie deck right now, but this is just my opinion. Wait until cards such as Despair from Darkness and Vampire Lord are released.
I give Book of Life:
4/5 for a Zombie Deck
1/5 for any other Deck
When DOES Vampire Lord come out…. |

Tuesday 09/05/03: Book of Life
PGD-033
Normal Magic
Special Summon 1 Zombie-Type monster from your Graveyard in face-up Attack or Defense Position and remove 1 monster from your opponent's Graveyard from play.
This card is an absolute must in any Zombie deck. In fact, anything less than 2 of these would almost be a sin. Monster revival cards are always a good thing and you can never have too many. 3 of these plus Monster Reborn, Premature Burial and Call of the Haunted in a Zombie deck is almost evil. The beauty of this card, however, is that you can also remove one of your opponent's monsters in the graveyard from play. Get rid of Jinzo, Bazoo or anything else that might pose a threat to your newly revived zombie.
There aren't that many Zombies worth playing right now but this certainly adds a lot of power to Zombie decks, even with the lack of monsters. This card makes it pretty easy to swarm your opponent with your legions of Royal Keepers and Patricians of Darkness. Of course, like you haven't heard this before, this card will be a killer when Vampire Lord is released.
