wartortle32 Vampire Lord

Each time this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent declare 1 card type (Monster, Spell, or Trap). Your opponent selects 1 card of that type from his/her Deck and sends it to the Graveyard. Also, when this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard by you opponent's card effect, it is Special Summoned to the field during your next Standby Phase.

Here we are, the big daddy himself. This is probably the most sought after card in the set. It was restricted to 1 in Japan and will be cut here as well. Let's look at why this card is so good. The first effect is the deck disruption effect. Damaging the opponent shouldn't be a problem as it's rather hard to destroy this monster. You should be able to get a few attacks off with this monster and most likely some will damage the opponent. Generally, it would be best to get rid of magic cards as there really isn't much magic recursion anymore since magician of faith stopped seeing use. Choosing monsters is probably useless as the opponent will probably dump a tribute monster into the grave and you will allow him to revive it without tribute. Choosing traps isn't a bad decision, but there is already plenty of m/t removal in the metagame, so you really shouldn't have too much problems with traps. That's why I pick magic cards as those are the hardest to stop.

Then there is his revival effect. Anytime he is destroyed by an effect, he will revive during your next standby. This does not count death from battle. Simply put, you have nothing to fear from any monster removal card. This bugger just keeps coming back. Then only real way to get rid of this guy for good is to either kill it in battle, or kill it with an effect and revive it with monster reborn before it revives itself. Either way, it's not going to be easy getting rid of Vampire Lord once he hits the field.

I'd give this card 4.4/5. This is a very powerful card and I suggest that you use it if you get your hands on 1. Don't bother getting more than 1 though as it will definitely get restricted.

Ever have a nasty itch that just wouldn't go away? Well, here's Yu-Gi-Oh's version. Raigeki.. Dark Hole.. Mirror Force... Vampire Lord laughs at them all. Kill him by any means other than by battle and he comes back during your next Standby Phase. 2000 ATK isn't too bad either and the fact that he can be Special Summoned via Pyramid Turtle's effect is what makes him so deadly. The deck destruction effect can really hurt your opponent. Start off by naming "Trap" over and over and all your other monsters will be safe. Don't name "Monster" though unless your opponent already has Sinister Serpent in his/her hand.

While Vampire Lord laughs at Spells and Traps, he cringes in fear of Goblin Attack Force, Lily, Jinzo and D.D. Warrior Lady. Big monsters are the only way to reliably get rid of him. Soul Release and Kycoo (after you use Raigeki or something similar) will work wonders against Vampire Lord. He also doesn't come back if he's tributed or if you destroy him yourself. While he's unrestricted, he's extremely broken when played in 3's. When the new restrictions come, he'll be restricted to 1 which will take away a lot of his power but he'll still be a force to reckon with.

Extremely fun and one of your worst nightmares when he's on the field. People will be digging out their Kycoos just for him.

Vampire Lord.. As of now, it is quite an overrated Monster, (not too much so, but it certainly is by many people) but the overrating isn't so bad now with the ability to use up to 3 V-Lords in a Deck, which, by all means, is simply devastating. 3 V-Lords out on the Field at the same time, which happens often in Decks with 3 V-Lords, is just overwhelming, as is just being able to use 3 in a Deck. Back when it was un-restricted in Japanese, I constantly had been going up against 3 V-Lords, and rarely would I come away with a victory over them, as I didn't use them myself. Anyways, V-Lord will soon be restricted to 1 just as it is in Japanese, though, so the overrating of it should die down sooner or later, but it will certainly still be a very widely-played card, as it is a very good Monster.

V-Lord can be searched by the Witch or by Pyramid Turtle, which greatly helps is out in Zombie Decks. It also works well in Control Decks and Dark-based Decks, among a few others. Its return Effect usually ends up turning out to be a great thing about the card, as is its card removal Effect. The thing you should least likely want to choose would be Monsters with the Effect, though, because of all the Monsters your opponent could dump into their Graveyard either to their advantage, or for revival set-up, if not both. I've said most of what I wanted to say and in more detail about V-Lord at the following link in my LItF section:

dawnyoshi Today's COTD is one of Nickwhiz1's favorite monsters, the Vampire Lord.

Vampire Lord's deck destruction ability can be very deadly. Most people will name trap with vampire lord so they can save their s/t removal for equipment spells, continuous cards, and field cards. Eventually you'll cause them to lose their best traps and spells.

Of course, your opponent can end their fears with a Ring of Destruction or Torrential Tribute...oh wait, they can't. A one turn stall won't work too well on this amazing vampire, since it will just keep coming back. Unfortunately, it won't be revived through battle or if it's destroyed by your own card effects. This means if they reborn your vampire from your grave, you'll have to hope your opponent uses Torrential Tribute or dark hole...but that won't end up being the case.

Constructed: 4/5- This card has reason to be restricted in Japan. In a standard dark deck, it can be feared. In a full blown zombie deck, this card will cause nightmares.

Limited: 5/5- If you pull this card in limited and GIVE IT AWAY, I hope you get smacked across the face with a booster box. You DON'T want to give this guy away, as he serves too many uses.

Finally! I get to review the card I’ve been waiting for since I first saw NickWhiz1 raving about it. Vampire Lord is one sick card. It gives total control by reducing the number of a certain type of card from your opponent’s deck and just keeps on coming back when it’s destroyed outside of battle. It’s best use, IMO, is helping set up the Yata Lock. Keep selecting monster as the type of card to remove from play and they will be without a load of monsters. The downside with this is they could dump a creature they can revive, like Jinzo. If you choose magic or traps, they will just end up removing the ones they know they won’t need.
   I give Vampire Lord a 9.79/10.

Possibly the most anticipated card, like, in a LONG time. Let’s take a look @ this combolicious card…

Pros:
+Get rid of say, traps, quickly and not have to fear them for the rest of the game
+Book of Life = special recursion just for him
+As long as he doesn’t die in battle, always comes back for more pwnage.
+He just looks sick. You should get this card only for that reason.

Cons:
-Expensive, secret rare
-He hates D.D. Warrior Girl, Kycoo, Soul Release I guess, cards like that.

Combos:
*Book of Life was made for this card. Not really a combo, but br0ken nonetheless.
*Pyramid turtle. Okay so creature swapping tomatoes used to be the thing. Wow, you got a Don Zaloog out of the venture. But now you can swap over a turtle and instead grab a V-Lord. Br0ken? I’d say so.

Let’s just say, vampire lord decks are looking GOOD for the current metagame. Multiple V-Lords, for the moment, is like cheating. There aren’t enough decent cards that remove graveyard mons to get rid of him for good. And that’s a mistake, given the access to SIX recursion cards, including reborn, burial, call, and THREE book of life. That makes up to 9 V-Lords in the deck at this time. And with the effect that can be played around (Waboku so he never dies in battle) and an effect that totally murders as the game continues (as the deck thins, so do the number of types of cards, including traps). Oh, and just to mention, the faster V-Lord deck wins. I mean, book of life to return YOUR v-lord back into play and at the SAME time removing your opponent’s from the game. \/\/()\/\/

I’ve heard stories from my friends that Gencon was pwned by pyramid turtle/giant rat/vampire lord decks, the fastest ways to get him out. So I’d say the best counter you can have against these decks are main boarding at LEAST 2 D.D. Warrior Girls, or just succumb to the pressure and run him in your deck as well.

Basically, only time will tell how to play with/against Vampire Lord, but this card is definitely game breaking, as well as metagame-defining. And oh yea, play him.

BTW, in limited, this guy is actually SLOWER and since you end up dying in battle this has got to be the only card that’s like not as effective in limited. Oh well, if you draft him, etc, just quit the draft and go play in a standard tournament. I mean, you pulled the damn secret rare :P

Ratings:
Constructed - 4.5/5 It’s not for EVERY deck but man this card PWNS.
Limited - 3.7/5 And still worth as much. $_$

Glad to have my playset of these!
Experiment JON Vampire Lord

Its about time someone chose a card which is actually decent…Vampire Lord…I have one of these…Vampire Lord was first released in the Kaiba Structure deck. But a lot of people who had it obviously didn’t care about it, and thought it was trash. Fools… My Vampire Lord was from DL 4, and is a lot rarer than the Kaiba Structure counterpart. For a while I played it in my fifty card deck, until I took it out in order to trim my deck down to forty cards.

Vampire Lord is such an abusive card. Some seem to have the misconception that card effects cannot destroy this card. It can. If this monster is fissured, it’s gone for the turn, and when it is your standby phase, it comes back. But if the opponent manages to remove this monster, it doesn’t come back. Now, its other effect to destroy your opponent’s deck internally is pretty decent… When I use this effect, I will always choose trap. That way, you can have genocide on traps, leaving none of them for you to worry about. But no matter what, if you use this effect, never choose monsters. Because they’ll just dump something that they can reborn.

The only bad thing about this card is that it is a tribute monster. And it only has 2000 attack. But a demon’s axe can fix all of that. Well, I’m off to pack my bags, and going half way around the world. Don’t worry, when I come back, I’ll have some interesting articles for you!

Now this being my favorite card i will be as unbiased as possible. This card is simply amazing, since the only monster most duelists play with over 2000 ATK is jinzo, VLord will be very difficult to be rid of, and his deck-out effect is awesome, if using VLord be sure to go for traps, then spells, then monsters, most of your opponents will only play 7 or less traps, so you wont have to worry about them as much, then you can cripple their spells, but sending monsters to the grave is tricky, as they might have call down or reborn/premature in hand, if you want to be an extreme risk taker, you can play autonomous and trick the into sending something good to the grave, then take control of it. The recursion effect is invaluable, unless your opponent can beat him in battle, hes never going to leave, kycoo will probably make a big comeback with the dawn of this set. Hardcore players will run 3 pyramid turtles and 3 book of lifes and play 3 befores its restricted.

Tourney - 4.9/5 - he could've been stronger, maybe 2300 or so?

Draft - 5/5 - evil-ness

Artwork - 5/5 - the art went unchanged for the most part, the card has an evil yet dominant look to it

Closing Line - whats this? i have 3 VLords on the field? ATTACK! TRAP, SPELL, MONSTER! TRAP SPELL, MONSTER!
