Wednesday - Don Zaloog
For those of who that are misinformed, Spirit Reaper can be destroyed, even if it is NOT targeted. It can still be destroyed by Dark Hole, Raigeki, etc.
Anyways, here's today's card:
PGD-029
DON ZALOOG
Dark/Warrior/4/1400/1500
When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent’s Life Points, you can select and activate 1 of the following effects:
-Select 1 card from your opponent’s hand randomly and discard it to the Graveyard.
-Send 2 cards from the top of your opponent’s Deck to the Graveyard.
This was definitely one of the most anticipated cards in PGD. Now we have it, with a couple minor graphical edits and a name more consistent with English grammar. Its effect is still the same, however.
Now, first, look at its stats. Those stats open it up to be searched out by Sangan, Witch of the Black Forest, Mystic Tomato, Reinforcement of the Army, and Freed the Matchless General. In other words, he's extremely easy to get out. He's also covered by Marauding Captain's protection effect, which is always nice as well.
Now, for the effect. Yes, you're not misreading it, you get to pick between two effects. If your opponent's hand is empty, you can pick the 2nd effect and discard 2 cards from the top of their deck. However, that can be dangerous, as you could discard a Jinzo or Airknight that can be revived, or a Sinister Serpent that will go to their hand. You won't use the 2nd effect often, though.
You'll be seeing this card wielding its double swords and holstered guns in both Warrior decks and non-Warrior decks. Yes, it's that good of a card. It's the third best card in the set, actually (the first two are Ring of Destruction and Mirage of Nightmare).

Don Zaloog was probably the most anticipated and overrated
card in the entire set of Pharaonic Guardian. Trust me, it is very good, but it doesn't compare to the hype.
Irregardless of what it can do, it's still just a 1400 ATK Monster. It's definitely not a card that should be abused in multiples of three. Unless you're running a straight Warrior Beatdown deck, I wouldn't run anymore than two Don Zaloog. Luckily, Warrior Decks have Marauding Captain to
potentially be his savior.
Although, Don Zaloog has some pretty devastating Effects. Not only can he discard a card at random, but he can also Mill your opponent's deck. There's no doubt that you should only use the Milling Effect if there's no cards in your opponent's hand.

PGD-029 - Ultra Rare
Dark/Warrior/4/1400/1500
Effect: When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent’s Life Points, you can select and activate 1 of the following effects:
-Select 1 card from your opponent’s hand randomly and discard it to the Graveyard.
-Send 2 cards from the top of your opponent’s Deck to the Graveyard.
The king of Hand and Deck Destruction. It's kind of like a hyped up White Magical Hat except that it can't attack under Gravity Bind but can still attack under Messenger of Peace. His effect being able to choose is what makes him so playable, if your opponent has no cards in their hand you can take 2 out of their deck, how sweet is that? He's searchable with WotBF and Sangan, and has no real side affect except if your opponent Change Of Hearts him. With him being such a powerful card I don't see why I don't have more to say about him, except with him being Ultra Rare he will be ultra hard to get a set of, but once you do... Imagine hitting you opponent with 3 of him in 1 turn, take 2 cards from their hand and 2 cards from their deck, pretty mean in my opinion. It was also rated 54 out of top 100 in Japan last year, so expect him to be as popular if not more here.
Ratings:
Casual: 3.5
Tourney: 4.0
ArtWork: 2.0 - It is good artwork, but a bad looking character in my opinion. |

Still taking a look at the latest cards from Pharaonic Guardian, we come across one of the best monsters in this set. Since Disruption is a key factor in most decks, and even in this game, Don Zaloog should be noted as a perfect edition to a deck that relies heavily on making sure the opponent has no options.
Don has the ability to be searched out with Mystic Tomato Witch of the Black Forest, and Sangan, and can also attack under Messenger of Peace. The greatest thing, though, is his effect. Discard one card at random from the opponent’s hand. That is amazing. The perfect Yata-Lock just became easier. And even if you do not fear what the opponent has in their hand, you can always use Don’s second effect: Discard the top two cards of your opponent’s deck and place those cards in their graveyard. It is always nice to have a backup plan, just in case.
A downside to this card is, not only can it be hard to obtain (I’ve seen people carry more Ring of Destructions then Don Zaloogs), it still is a weak monster with only 1400 attack. A Gemini Elf or Kycoo would instantly kill it. Always have a plan or an empty field before playing this card.
I give Don Zaloog:
Causal: 4/5
Tournament: 4.2/5
I’m in a hurry to get ready for some things, so this review might have seemed rushed. O_o… |
