Ah, good ol' Exodia. Back in the day, Exodia was something to be feared, with 2 Sangans and 2 Witches and no real hand disruption beyond Card Destruction, Exodia was a beast. But now, it sucks. With many duelists playing with the Hand Disruptors Delinquent Duo, Forceful Sentry, and Confiscation, along with a Kycoo or 2, Exodia is no longer a beast but perhaps a small, fluffy, and cuddly forest creature with no teeth or legs.

While there are some easy counters to it, Exodia could put up a fight if it got a good start, such as all 5 pieces in the starting hand ;). But seriously, with so much speed in cards like Mystic Tomato, Painful Choice, Nimbles and Giant Germs (deck thinning = speed indirectly), Pot of Greed, Graceful Charity, and Card Destruction, it is possible to get Exodia rather quickly. But unless you get Exodia rather quickly, you may be either run over by Beatdown monsters or Hand Disrupted and then fall into the Yata lock. And you could imagine that, under a Yata lock, you can't really get Exodia to your hand.

Fiber Jar can both hurt and help Exodia. Fiber Jar (and hey, Morphing Jar as well) can give you a fresh start and another chance to get the pieces of Exodia that have fallen into the graveyard, especially the Head. You could also repeat the process of playing some Soul Releases and then getting Fiber Jar flipped, thus slimming your deck even more. But it also allows your opponent to get all his/her Hand Disruption back again to be used against Exodia. Plus, once an Exodia piece is removed from the game via NoC/Kycoo, it's game over. So either you build your deck to be totally focused on Exodia, or have a back-up plan in the form of an alternate strategy, such as Burn or Beatdown. It's up to your play style, I guess.

Rating: 3/5. There are cards that can both help and hurt Exodia. Just be careful around hand disruption and find a way to survive it. If you can, or just move fast enough, then victory via Exodia will be yours. But be careful, Yata and Hand Disruption is Exodia's biggest threat. And unfortunately, it's getting a lot of play in the metagame right now. BTW, don't use GB/MoP, m/t removal will kill you too easily. :P
DuelMonster Monday:
Exodia the Forbidden One
Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon: 124/Ultra Rare
Dark/Spellcaster/3/1000/1000
Effect: An automatic victory can be declared by the player whose hand contains this card together with the Left Leg/Right Leg/Left Arm/Right Arm of the Forbidden One.

The old Exodia goes for another spin on the Pojo COTD Review, and with some new cards to make and break Exodia Decks, the days of The Forbidden One are changing. Sangan went down to one this year, as well as Needle Worm popping his needles into peoples decks, and it's getting tougher to hold on to your hand with cards like Drop-Off, Secret Of The Bandit, Smoke Grenade and Yata on the rise, and soon to be released, the king of hand disruption DON ZARUUG will make Exodia hurt. The spirit monster Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi will also spell doom if he gets a clear shot at you while your holding the goods, but probably won't see much tournament play in my opinion.

Now on a brighter side, Fiber Jar is making recursion of lost limbs more simple, unless of course pieces get removed via Banisher/Kycoo or other means, but now we also have Miracle Dig which can retrieve removed cards but they only get placed into your Graveyard. Then it's a matter of getting them to your hand with cards like Backup Soldier, Monster Reborn + Penguin Solder/Hane-Hane or Monster Recover, Monster Recovery is actually pretty good in an Exodia Deck, say you get a piece summoned to the field via Cyber Jar or Morphing Jar#2, you can Monster Recover it and try for a new hand at the same time.

A couple good new drawing cards have made a hit in Exodia Decks including Jar Of Greed, Card Of Safe Return, Airknight Parshath and Upstart Goblin is a little more playable with Bad Reaction To Simochi but Upstart is Restricted so I wouldn't think the combo would work too often. A good drawing combo for an Exodia Deck that I haven't seen anyone play yet is DNA Surgery+Cannon Soldier+Super Rejuvenation and maybe throw in an Ultimate Offering+Last Will to keep it going.

Stalling till you draw the pieces has gotten better to manage and with lots of variety since Exodia was released. Beside Waboku and Swords Of Revealing Light, we now have Messenger Of Peace, Gravity Bind, Dark Door, Vengeful Bog Spirit, ScapeGoat, Fairy Box, DNA Surgery+Insect Barrier, Tornado Wall+Umi/A Legendary Ocean and even cards like Solemn Wishes can help keep you lp stable every time you draw, which in most Exodia Decks is allot.

I personally have never played a real Exodia Deck, I've played one a couple times on GameBoy, mostly because I don't own all the pieces, but with the ability to win a game just buy drawing the 5 right cards is always going to be popular in the world of the Yu-Gi-Oh! CCG and worth good money when you don't feel like unleashing the forbidden one anymore.

Exodia the Forbidden One

Taking a step back into the past, we review a card that was pretty popular back in the old days. Exodia the Forbidden One simply states if you have all 5 pieces of him in your hand, you win the game. This type of deck was a competitive archtype when hand disruption wasn’t as big as it is currently in the metagame. Right now, many things can leave your plans in ruins, seeing as how obtaining 5 pieces in the hand at once is hard to do. Delinquent Duo, Confiscation, The Forceful Sentry is to name a few cards that can hurt (take note that many decks play these cards).

Exodia only works if you build a deck around it. You can’t just throw it into a deck that has nothing based on getting him into your hand. Even with Hand Disruption crawling around everywhere, there are ways you can successfully get Exodia. To name a few are the following:

-Sangan
-Painful Choice
-Backup Soldiers
-Plenty of Draw power
-Witch of the Black Forest
-Cards that thin your deck

[NOTE: Witch of the Black Forest is really a card that belongs in every deck (that plays monsters).]

In conclusion, always make speed the top factor. Draw Power, Deck Thinning, and Searching with Witch and Sangan allows you to get the pieces quicker, and, ever so closer to getting a win.

Causal: 3.5/5
Tournament: 3/5

The biggest problem you will face with an Exodia Deck is Hand Disruption, which will be greater then ever once Pharonic Guardian is released.
