Cannon Soldier is such a beast.
1400 can not beat shit.
But hey, who cares?
With its effect, you can...do 500? =/
OK, screw the rhyme. That sucked horribly. But I mean, can you really blame me? Here I am, sitting at my iBook at 1:49 in the morning, after just finishing a 3000 word article and having to leave at 3:30 a.m. to go down to Texas A&M for a New Student Conference thing where I'll start hating school again and freeze to death in those damn cold rooms...
This proves how dedicated I am to this site. Well rather, it proves how much of a bitch I am to Pojo. Sigh...
ANYWAYS, let's review a card that will see some more play come next set, Cannon Solider. Weeee! =/
Well, 1400 is shit. You can kill some Sangans and Witches, plus some DEF mode GAFs and Spears, and that's about it, unless some fruity player is using Nimbles or stuff like that :D. But in the next set, Mystic Tomato will see more play, since Don Zaruug can be searched out by the Tomato. And what do you know, so can this card! Need a little LP damage to nuke a weird Last Turn deck? *Glares at Jason from Grapevine, "1 Lily, slut! Booyah!"* Or maybe launch some Goats for 2000 LPs. Or maybe use CoH/Snatch Steal on an opponent's monsters and then launch them in your opponent's face and laugh. And with cards like Lily, Confiscation, Delinquent Duo, Spear Dragon, and Fiber Jar, Burn decks may actually stand a chance nowadays.
Rating: 3/5. It may be bad in the opening hand, but if you can save it or draw it for the right time, you can launch away for the game, or at least for a lot of damage. Hell, I may start playing one soon... |

Wednesday:
Cannon Soldier
Metal Raiders: 106/Rare
Dark/Machine/4/1400/1300
Effect: Offer 1 monster on your side of the field as a Tribute to inflict 500 points of Direct Damage to your opponent's Life Points. Monsters used for a Tribute Summon or that are offered as Tributes due to other card's effects are excluded.
First off, Cannon Soldier can tribute more than one monster a turn, and can tribute himself for his effect. Just wanted to state that because I still have people asking. Now back in my fist Tournament days I ran a good Cannon Deck. Team him up with Ultimate Offering, Last Will, Spear Cretin, Soul Exchange, Bubonic Vermin and stalling with MoP and using lots of recursion like Shallow Grave and you can deal lots of damage in a single turn. Now that Mask Of Restrict is out Cannon Soldier has a worst enemy, but he also gains a new best friend with ScapeGoat, being able to do 2000 damage every time you activate it but you can activate more than 1 a turn because it renders you unable to summon, including Special Summons like Jam Breeding Machine which can also work good with Cannon Soldier but you have to get him on the field before activating it.
We also have Cannon Soldiers little sister Amazon Archer out now which does 600 per monster but you have to tribute 2 at a time for the effect, making her a little less playable. I think because most people won't play with Mask Of Restrict that Cannon Soldier will continue to reign strong for Burners and help launch searcher out for Exodia pieces for at least a couple more sets.
