Marauding Captain
This card is almost a staple in Warrior Decks. It's basically gives you 2 Summons, making it a lot easier for you to get Freed The Matchless General out. If you get 2 of these out, then your opponent can't attack either of them. It also protects your Goblin Attack Force after it has attacked. I'm not really a Tribal guy though so I don't think this card is THAT good.

Tuesday - Marauding Captain
Continuing on through LoD week, we look at one of the more useful Warrior cards in the game. This card is restricted to 2 in Japan, and probably will be over here, and there are reasons for that.
First off, I want you to ignore the stats for now. 3/1200/400 won't win any beauty contests (although you may want to note them for future reference).
Like Freed, MC has 2 effects. However, they are different and quite interesting.
1. As long as this monster remains face-up on the field, your opponent cannot select another Warrior-Type monster on your side of the field as an attack target.
Now, according to Konami of Japan, the Japanese Expert Rules Page (think of a Japanese version of Edo's page), and Edo, this would cause a no-attack situation should 2 MCs be on the field at the same time, provided any other monsters on the field are Warriors. This is different than Legendary Fisherman. Ask Edo to explain it to you :/ Now, I don't know if it'll stay this way (Konami likes to send contradictory rulings to UD), but if it does, that's reason enough to make it restricted IMO, and we're not even to the second effect yet.
2. When this monster is Normal Summoned successfully, you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower monster from your hand.
Well now, getting 2 MCs on the field at the same time just became really easy! You can also Special Summon GAF, Zombyra, Gearfried, Axe Raider, Dream Clown, Hayabusa Knight, etc. Now THIS is probably the reason he got restricted, because he can mini-swarm. Note that he has to be Normal Summoned to do this, so no activating his effect if he's revived from the Graveyard or brought out by another MC =(
There are three ways you can go about using this guy.
1. Dedicated Warrior deck
This is probably his best role. Use him with GAF, Zombyra, and Hayabusa Knight. Warrior swarms are really, really fun.
2. Clown Control
Oh boy, what was Konami thinking when they made Dream Clown a Warrior? Not only can MC special summon him and he is affected by other Warrior effects, but you can even get away with putting MC in a Dream Clown deck because he's level 3! Use him with Dream Clown and Hayabusa Knight and watch your opponent be really mad at you.
3. Tech in standard beatdown
Note that it says that you can Special Summon ANY Level 4 or below monster (that can be Normal Summoned, no Relinquished =/), so why not use one in a standard beat to bring out GAF, Gemini, Spear Dragon, or Lily? He may not last very long, but you can always try to do 1200 more damage to your opponent, and can protect GAF while he's in defense :/
Expect this card to be restricted to 2 when the English LoD rulings come out. He's an Ultra Rare, so happy hunting :)

Earth/Warrior/Effect/3/1200/400

Ultra Rare
Continuing Warrior week, we take a look at Marauding Captain. Comboed with Freed, you can get an army of Warriors set up in no time.
Marauding Captain's first Effect is not bad at all. It work great for protecting a Goblin Attack Force which has previously attacked, among other things.
His second Effect lets you unleash a small brigade of Warriors directly at your opponent's Monsters. And if the field is clear, you can deal a solid amount of damage in a short period of time. The only problem with this Effect is that it slims your hand down an extra card. Thus if they Raigeki/Dark Hole/Torrential Tribute/ECT, it will hurt your overall hand consistency.
What I really like about his second Effect is that the Monster Special Summoned doesn't have to be a Warrior-Type. This gives him a small chance to be used in other decks, namely Clown Control. It will definitely be something to playtest.

Chances are he's going to be restricted to 2 per deck. If you're running a Warrior deck, ABUSE both of them. |
