Yata-Garasu

One of the most anticipated cards in Legacy of Darkness. Probably the most broken Monster in the whole Duel Monsters TCG as well. I present to you, Yata-Garasu, one of the Secret Rares in the upcoming LOD set...

Some people look at it and just don't see its true power immediately. It's understandable as those people probably have to experience playing with/against it to really comprehend its greatness. A true Yata-Lock is done when you clear your opponent's hand and field, leaving him with no options, and then attacking with Yata to prevent your opponent from drawing, ever. Now, if you already have some big Monster out as well when you managed to Yata-Lock your opponent, you'll probably win in a couple of turns. But even if you only have Yata out, you will eventually draw stuff like Monster Reborn, Premature Burial and Call of the Haunted. Or, you can keep on playing Yata until you have a huge hand of 6-7 cards and just stop playing Yata. With that amount of card advantage against your opponent, you should win in no time as well.

Yata's "downside" is that it returns to your hand the turn it was summoned. This makes it kinda slow as you cannot normal summon anymore Monsters if you still want to summon Yata every turn. However, the downside also proves to be very useful as it makes Yata VERY hard to kill. Normal Magic cards like Fissure and Raigeki can't kill it. You could use Offerings to the Doomed and Cofiscation to get rid of it though. You could also use Traps like Torrential Tribute, Mirror Force (duh!) and Skull Lair against it. A good Monster that you can use against Yata is definitely Sinister Serpent. It works best when your opponent has nothing else out as well.

This card can single-handedly win you the game even if you are 100LP while your opponent still has 8000LP. It's just that darn good. If you still don't think Yata is good, just wait until you play against it. You WILL learn to fear it...

Rating: 5/5 (broken... ;x)
wartortle32 Yata Garasu

This card cannot be Special Summoned and it returns to its owner's hand during the End Phase of a turn in which it is Summoned (any kind of summon) or flipped. If this card does battle damage to your opponent's LP, he or she skips his or her next Draw Phase.

This is one of the few playable spirit monster in the next set. This will also be one of the Secret Rares in the new set, the other being the Injection Fairy Lily. This card has the best potential for total lockdown of the opponent. If you manage to clear the opponent's field and hand, and then you summon this monster, it's game over for the opponent. Plus, you can also pull off some nice combos with this card such as Creature Swap (Forced Transfer). You summon Yata, give it to the opponent and force them to give you one of theirs, and then at the end of the turn, you get your yata back. It's like a permanent change of heart. This will no doubt be restricted to 1.

I give this card a 4.5/5. Best used in hand disruption decks as that type of deck has the best potential to destroy the opponent's hand.
Lady Poet Yaaaaaaaaaay! Its my favorite card in the entire game! Yata Garasu (UD might change the spelling or something) is the perfect card for locking your opponent out of his own deck. Its also rumored to be the Secret Rare of Legacy of Darkness. To get to your opponents life points, you'll need a stronger monster to clear the way for it. But on the bright side, every time it does LP damage, they can't draw. So then they run out of ways to stop you. Draw Power is the most important aspect of this game, and without it, you won't get very far.

Casual : 5.0!
Tourney/Competitive : 4.7 (Just because I love it)
NickWhiz1 Monday - Yata-Garasu

Sorry for only doing 1 CotD in the last couple of weeks, folks. I haven't really been in the mood to. But from now on, I hope to review all 5 cards per week, provided none of them get lost in e-mail :/

With Legacy of Darkness no more than a few weeks away, we're going to take a peekie at 5 of the more powerful cards from the set, and what other way is there to start than with quite possibly the single most broken card in the entire game? (other than Skull Servant, of course) This card will be LOD-000, making it the Secret Rare in Hobby (24 count) boxes, so preorder them now ~_^

Now, why is this card broken, you say? It only has 200 attack, only stays on the field for one turn, can't be Special Summoned, and its effect only lasts for one turn.

Let's dissect this.

200 attack is about all this bird has against it, but it only takes 1 attack power to do damage to your opponent with a direct attack, right? Yata won't be beating any monsters anytime soon (heck, it loses to Sinister Serpent and Magician of Faith), but it doesn't need to, as that's not its job.

Being able to return to your hand at the end of your turn is more of a blessing than a curse, in reality. If it stayed on the field during your opponent's turn, it faces being destroyed by Raigeki, Dark Hole, Tribute to the Doomed, Fissure, Skull Lair, Man-Eater Bug, etc. Despite the mass amount of hand disruption present in the game, Yata is safer in your hand than on the field.

If it could be Special Summoned, it would be banned, OK? That would just make it TOO broken. Yes, I realize you may want him back from the graveyard, but that's what they invented Fiber Jar for (we'll review that card later =/).

I know, you're thinking "Whoopie, skip one draw phase, I could do that with Time Seal". Yes, you could, but Yata can do it multiple times, plus Time Seal is kind of iffy :/ Not allowing your opponent to draw a card creates a sense of urgency for your opponent. They have to find a way to get rid of Yata with the cards they have in their hand and on the field, and they have to do it quickly, because if Yata gets its way, they may not draw another card for the end of the game. The most rotten way to win in the game, other than the one-turn KO combo with Cyber-Stein/BEUD/Megamorph, in my opinion, is to clear your opponent's field and hand, and just keep poking them with Yata. Yeah, it's that broken. It is one of the few cards in the entire game that can create a perfect lock.

Now, quite honestly, if you haven't figured out the true power of this card yet, you should stop playing this game. This card is the definition of broken, and will be restricted to 1 ASAP. The only fear I have is LOD going unrestricted for a long time (like Graceful Charity/Harpie's Feather Duster/Sinister Serpent), because 1 Yata on its own is scary, so that makes 3 downright terrifying. Added on with 3 Injection Fairy Lily, 3 Exiled Force, and 3 Fiber Jars (we will review these cards soon), the environment will be EXTREMELY terrifying in the pre-LOD-restriction days.

Score: 5.0 (if you STILL don't see why this is so, I feel pity for you)
