Spear Dragon

IMO, this card is a bit overrated. I understand that a 1900 with built in Fairy Meteor Crush is nice and all but like Goblin Attack Force, it probably won't survive the next turn as it switches to DEF Mode. Now, GAF is really good because of it's high attack (and the fact that it's a Warrior). GAF can get rid of almost any Lv 4 or lower except a fully powered Bazoo. Spear Dragon is good in some other situations. Mainly when your opponent plays stuff face down (like Flip Monsters) and Scapegoat Tokens. Spear Dragon is also nasty with Power-Ups like United We Stand, Mage Power, Megamorph, etc. It works really nicely with Megamorph as it will probably die next turn anyway. Personally, I wouldn't run too many Spear Dragons and GAFs in my deck as they all die to cards like Mystic Tomato/Nimble Momonga/Giant Germ. Sure, you are dealing a lot of damage with Spear Dragon, but your opponent would still have Monsters on the field. Don't overdo it by playing 3 Spear Dragons and 3 GAFs. I personally prefer Airknight Parshath (which we will review soon) in certain decks. Especially if you run stuff like Tomato/Momonga/Germ and the new Twin-Headed Behemoth (which we will review soon). If I were to play Spear Dragon, I'll probably just play 1, or 2 at max. You could also consider Sidedecking a couple if your opponent runs a lot of Flip Monsters/Scapegoats.

Rating: 3.8/5
wartortle32 Spear Dragon

This 1900 attack level 4 monster has a built in fairy meteor crush, but it switches to defense at the end of the battle phase, like GAF. Unlike GAF, it can change back to attack mode the next turn.

The new 1900 attack monster is Spear Dragon. This monster works wonders against flip effect monsters, scapegoats, or GAFs in defense. And since it can change back to attack mode the next turn, you only have to protect it for 1 turn, with something like Waboku or Magic cylinder before it can attack again, whereas you have to protect GAF for 2 turns.

I give it a 3.8/5. Overall a good monster, but I'm probably going to stick with my geminis just because the defense mode switch is too big a drawback for me.
NickWhiz1 Thursday - Spear Dragon

Legacy of Darkness has four main focuses: Fiends, Warriors, Dragons, and Spirits. Today we're going to look at one of the Dragons from the set, and quite possibly one of the best of them.

This card can be described by the following expression:

Gemini Elf - 900 defense + Goblin Attack Force's effect + ability to switch position next turn + Fairy Meteor Crush = Spear Dragon

This card will definitely see play, mostly with the people that couldn't get their hands on Gemini Elf, because for only a Super Rare, this card will be plenty abundant. I personally have 2 Geminis (a low number compared with the other CotD guys =/), but I still may use this guy in a quantity of 1 or 2. This guy makes Goblin Attack Force users think very very hard about using 2-3 of him, because Spear Dragon basically gets a direct attack for poking him in Defense. Same goes for an opposing Spear Dragon. There's also 1650 damage for Sinister, 1600 for Magician of Faith, 1400 for Penguin Soldier, 900 for Cyber Jar, etc. This card is also a nice Scapegoat counterer, although Tyrant Dragon and Asura Priest (coming up later) are more efficient.

Score: 3.5 (I'm not going to run 3 Goblins anymore when this card comes out >.<)
