Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Magical Marionette

Card Number - MFC-069

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating

Date Reviewed - 11.21.03

DuelMonster Friday:11/21/03

Magical Marionette:
MFC-069-Common
Dark/Spellcaster/5/2000/1000
Effect: Each time you or your opponent activates 1 Spell Card put 1 Spell Counter on this card. Increase the ATK of this monster by 200 points for each Spell Counter on this card. Also you can remove 2 Spell Counters from this card to destroy 1 monster on the field.

Pros:
Searchable Via WotBF
Potential to overpower Jinzo and any other Monsters
Can destroy any Monster regardless of its position or side of Field
Gains Spell Counter when either player activates Magic/Spells

Cons:
Snatch Steal, Change Of Heart and even Creature Swap can be very bad
1-Tribute (well it's not too bad)
Doesn't gain DEF boost

Combos:
GearFreed + Eruma/Dagger Of Butterflies = Infinite ATK gain/boost and infinite Monster Removal Effect.

Notes:
With only one tribute, the ability of an (insane if used right)ATK boost and/or Monster destruction and only being a Common makes this guy/girl a very potential card. As always though there are drawbacks and better Monsters to use, but as you've heard before as soon as Eruma comes out you can pull the infinite ATk boost and Monster destruction tick. There are a few good things and bad things about his Spell Counters being gained on the opponents turn as well as your own. If the successfully use any card to gain control of Marionette weather it be Change Of Heart or Monster Reborn they can start abusing the Effects back at you.

I tried this card out for a bit, it wouldn't last on the Field long but when it was out I could pull some nice combinations of Spells and removal then attacking for a couple good chunks, but then Raigeki or something always shows up sooner or later.

Besides using it in a Beatdown or a Spell Counter Deck it would also work well in Stall and various Control Decks, but I wouldn't recommend running more than one in any given deck besides something with a lot of Spell Counter gaining technique. Try it out if you haven't, I keep one in my Side Deck but never really Main Deck it for tournaments.

Fun Fact:
Etymology: French marionette, from Middle French maryonete, from Marion, diminutive of Marie and Mary. : a small-scale usually wooden figure (as of a person) with jointed limbs that is moved from above by manipulation of the attached strings or wires.

Ratings:
Casual: 4.0
Tourney: 3.0
ArtWork: 4.5 - See, if you compare this card to Mysterious Puppeteer you can see a dramatic difference in drawing technique. This picture IMO is awesome, and it would have been worth a Super Rare if it either had 2400 starting ATK or only having to remove one Counter to destroy a Monster.
MerrilHess Magical Marionette

Dark/Spellcaster
5 Stars/ 2000 atk/ 1000 def

Upsides:
Witch-able
Monster Removal
Increasing attack

Down sides:
Tribute Monster
Change of Heart and Snatch Steal used on it
Won’t last long with 2000 attack
Spell Canceller pwnz this

In Casual, This card is a demon. I feel he will be a contender in the near future. He is great in any fun deck, but like I said, He can be pwned.

In tourney, this card can be your savior. I know it has for me. I tried it out in my Control (or Hand D.) And he helped out a lot. I would consider him for any deck as a good card.

In Sealed, this card rules. ‘Nuff said. You should know that this would make any sealed deck good, if not, great. Play it without a doubt.

I give him a 4.03 / 5(I just realized that I was making the mistake of saying it was whatever number out of ten when it should have been out of 5. Sorry for any confusion.)

Casual Rating: 4.0
Tourney Rating: 3.5
Sealed Rating: 4.6 (he’s that good here)

Finally, the card I’ve been waiting ALL week for! >_< I’ll refer to her as MM…hmm M&Ms…Eminem…word up ‘dis spellcaster be a gangster y0 XD.

Pros:
+2000 ATK
+Searchable by Witch
+Possibility for MASSIVE (even infinite) damage
+Monster removal for just 2 spell counters (more reasonable to stay on the field long enough)

Cons:
-Level 5
-Like all spell counter cards, you can only activate the monster destruction effect on your turn =\
-Can be used against you !_!

Combos:
= with Gearfried and Eruma - Dagger of Butterflies spells infinite damage, and since Magical Marionette herself can remove any number of monsters all you really have to worry about are traps, so clear the spell/trap zone, then get out the 3 card combo and you have an instant win!

This card I really like. In any deck, really, M&M fits just fine. This can be that “TecH” card you’ve been looking for, that perfect addition to your deck. And it fits all themes. Now true, in a control heavy environment, it’s hard to get out a level 5 and when you do it better be worth it a.k.a. Airknight/Jinzo, but I still think this card is worthy of testing out. The possibilities are endless. Well not endless, but yea ;-)

In limited, this card is so versatile like WHOA o_O. 2000+ ATK, spell-triggered ATK bonus, monster removal, all in one. It’s a first or second round pick for SURE, possibly [one of] the best commons in limited formats like draft.

Constructed - 3.5/5
Limited - 4.5/5
Experiment JON Hello people of the world. This is my first card of the day review for Pojo! ::JUMPS WITH EXCITEMENT:: Anyway, I’m Experiment_JON. And to those who may know me from other places, I’m Jonathan Fung. Anyway, I think you will be reading more of my works on the featured writers sections of this site. Anyway, enough about me, and onto my first review.

Magical Marionette(MFC-069)

Password: 08034697
Group: Spellcaster/Effect
Primary Type: DARK
Attack: 2000
Defense: 1000
Level: 5

Card Text: Each time you or your opponent activates 1 Spell Card, put 1 Spell Counter on this card. Increase the ATK of this monster by 200 points for each Spell Counter on this card. Also, you can remove 2 Spell Counters from this card to destroy 1 monster on the field.

The good old Magical Marionette. I never personally used this card, but at one point, I put three of them in my brother’s deck. I have a boatload of these in Japanese, and I have realized over the course of my play, that Magical Marrionette isn’t worth the trouble of a tribute.

Every time I hear about this card being “good” I get hear about the Eruma/Gearfreed combo. Unfortunately, the truth is, that when you play against any experienced player, you will have an extremely hard time getting two monsters on the field, one of them a tribute monster, and a restricted magic card in your hand. For now, since Eurma aint coming out for a month or so in English, lets not worry about it. Besides, this combo takes all the fun out of the game.

Now, for a one tribute, 2000 attack points is insufficient to make it worthwhile. On the other hand, the ability to trash monsters by discarding only 2 magic counters is pretty good. The 200 atk power bonus per counter is also pretty decent. I really don’t know what to say about this card…maybe ill do a better job on the next. ::SIGHS::

Anyway, I guess all I can give you is my rating, and hopefully, you will find my articles more informative than this COTD review. ^ ^
