Wednesday 10/22/03: Roulette Barrel
4/1000/2000
Light/Machine
MFC-025
Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can roll a six-sided die twice. Select one result and destroy 1 face-up monster on the field whose level is equal to the result.
Roulette Barrel is a lot of fun. Then again, any card that involves dice rolls is fun as long as you're not on the receiving end of the effect.
This is an excellent defensive card. 2000 DEF means most of the regular beatsticks can't get past it. However, the real power lies in its effect. Monster removal is always a bonus, even if it isn't guaranteed and even if it has the potential to backfire on you. With Roulette Barrel being a level 4 monster, and most popular monsters being level 4, it means that it will be rare that you roll a pair of 4s and have to use the effect on itself. This monster is fairly easy to summon as Shining Angel, Sangan and Last Will can bring it out.
Unfortunately, this monster is also a weakling but it's always good for killing Spear Dragons, Goblin Attack Forces and Giant Orcs. The monster destruction effect can also hurt you if you have a monster like Jinzo on the field with Roulette Barrel and your opponent doesn't have a level 6 monster of his/her own. Rolling a pair of 6s in this situation will certainly make you cry...then again, you should probably do the responsible thing and not use the effect at all.
Roulette Barrel is a fun and useful card. It works best in Light and Machine Decks. This will also work in other decks if you need a defensive monster.

Roulette Barrel is
an interesting Monster. It's obviously based off
of Barrel Dragon, but is it any more playable?
The Level 4 is nice,
the same goes for the 2000 DEF. It's just a bit
too random for my taste. I can see it working in
a deck such as Exodia which doesn't usually have
the space to pack endless amounts of Monster
removal. But the fact that coins are flipped
still gets to me. Not something I enjoy very
much in a game.
Overall it isn't a
terrible Monster. I can see it being pretty
useful in some decks. If you're playing in a
Sealed Tournament, it's definitely a first pick.
A solid Defense combined with a way to clear the
Field, will surely win you games there.

Roulette Barrel:
MFC-025-Common
Light/Machine/4/1000/2000
Effect: Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can roll a six-sided die twice. Select one result and destroy 1 face-up monster on the field whose level is equal to the result.
Pros:
Searchable by Sangan, Shining Angel and Last Will
Descent DEF
Effect is OPTIONAL
Choice between two rolls
Common - Easy To Acquire
Cons:
Weak ATK
Only works on Face-Up Monsters
Can't target Level 7+ Monsters
Combos:
Light Of Intervention/CeaseFire - Increases your odds at destruction
Notes:
This is an odd Monster Removal Monster, not as useful as T-Virus, but could be more reusable than Exiled Force depending on the game flow. With only 1000 ATK your not going to want to straight Summon it in Attack Position unless you have a Waboku or something ready, and if you wait for a 2000 or less DEF Monster to attack it you might get run over by Sasuke Samurai, Nobleman Of Crossout or one of many cards. The being able to choose between two rolls makes for a better chance at destruction, but if the opponent has any Monsters Level 7 or higher they won't be viable targets. Not like there's Level 7+ Monsters on the Field that often, but it's still a downside.
There will be a Trap coming out in the Dark Crisis set this (supposedly) December that can help out with Die/Dice Rolling Effects called Reverse Dice: 305-047-Common - Normal Trap: Once during this turn, negate a die roll and re-roll the die. It can help out a couple cards, but some of the Dice Cards are still really useless (Blind Destruction).
This card would probably work very well in a Stall Deck, but it might be a little too slow in the average BeatDown, and he's/it's always a good tech card for straight Machine Decks. It's a halfway descent Effect, but it could also destroy your own Monsters, so that may give it a bad look most of the time.

As much as I like dice, this card isn’t all that good. Its decent DEF is its only redeeming feature. So if for some reason you are going to play a defense deck, you might as well use this card. The odds are you are not going to roll a helpful roll, still if you do, it will be of help. Unfortunately you cannot destroy monsters over 6 stars. So if your either playing a dice deck, or just like defense cards, then add this card, then add it in, otherwise the space can be better used. Still if you are rather new to the game, and cannot get the high level attackers, this card may help out, it just needs to live long enough to get flipped.
