Double Spell
Normal Spell
MFC-106
Discard 1 Spell Card from your hand. Select 1 Spell Card from your opponent's Graveyard and activate it from the Graveyard as your Spell Card.
Double Spell seems like a pretty good card at first sight until you realize just how hard it is to use.
Getting a Spell Card from your opponent's Graveyard can definitely be gamebreaking. Raigeki, Harpie's Feather Duster, Monster Reborn, Pot of Greed... All those good cards could be at your disposal. This card works best late in the duel when your opponent's Graveyard is full.
Unfortunately, early in the duel, this card is almost totally useless. Even late in the duel, the chances that you'll have Double Spell as well as another Spell Card to discard are pretty slim. This card is something you don't want to draw when you're topdecking. The other big problem is that your opponent certainly won't use Imperial Order or Magic Drain when you activate Double Spell but he/she will when you activate the card you just got. Wow. You lose 2 cards (or possibly 3 with Magic Drain) and your opponent gets to laugh in your face. I suppose you could lessen the pain if you use Forced Requisition.
Double Spell is extremely situational as well as overly expensive to use. This is a very poor card and really shouldn't be in any tournament deck. Leave it in the binder or use it as trade bait.

Thursday - Double
Spell
Normal Spell
Discard 1 Spell Card from your hand. Select 1
Spell Card from your opponent's Graveyard and
activate it from the Graveyard as your Spell Card.
Double Spell would be
a lot better if the discard wasn't specific. The
chances of you having a useless Spell card in your
hand are very slim in a properly built deck. If
you really need some sort of Spell Card recursion,
use Magician of Faith. It will be useful in many
more situations.
In Sealed, it's not
very good either. I would only consider playing it
if you really had nothing better to fill up your
deck with. Based on the Spell cards in MFC as a
whole, Double Spell generally won't net you that
much of an advantage.

Double Spell:
MFC-106-Ultra Rare
Normal Spell
Discard 1 Spell Card from your hand. Select 1 Spell Card from your opponent's Graveyard and activate it from the Graveyard as your Spell Card.
Pros:
Ability to use opponents PoG, Raigeki, M.Reborn, Etc.
Cons:
Can only discard a Spell Card - makes S.Serpent feel left out.
Magic Drain can really hurt.
Combos:
M.Marionette - Instantly adds enough Counters to destroy a Monster.
Notes:
Well now this is a costly card to use, it takes two Spells to use one Spell, which could help in the right situations, but if it's not going to turn game around for you or give you that winning shot it might not be worth using most of the time. You could end up having this card sit in your hand for several reasons, one being that the opponent has no useful Spells in their Graveyard, or that you don't have a Spell Card in your hand that you ant to discard without using. Now on the other hand, if your opponent has a Field full of Monsters and a Raigeki in their Graveyard, and all you have in your hand is Double Spell and a MST, it would help out greatly. Same would apply if they had a bunch of Spell/Trap Cards out and a HFD in their Graveyard, but if they pull a Magic Drain on you it may become "Triple Spell" and could disrupt your plans.
There are so many different situations that could take place that getting a specific Spell by discarding a semi-useless Spell could either give you the upper hand or straight win you the game, but it's a very costly and almost risky card to use right now, especially with all the Hand Disruption out right now that makes discarding a bad idea incase a Yata shows up.
So it can be a very useful and versatile card depending on the situations of the Field, LP, Hand and Graveyard, but playing more than one Double Spell may be a bit over doing it, unless you discard one to activate the other of course. Getting this card in your first hand could also put you in a tight spot, but pulling it late game when you have many good choices in your opponents Graveyard to pick from and having a better idea of what Spell in your hand are going to help the most and what ones are worth discarding.
This card was a Secret Rare in Japan when it came out, but they also have like three Secret Rares in a set where as we only have two. Being an Ultra Rare makes it a bit hard to get a hold of, but most likely you're only going to want one in your deck if you do plan on using it. I on the other hand would rather Soul Release any good Spell cards from the opponents Graveyard to prevent them from using them via Magician Of Faith or Fiber Jar, but I still might use one for when I'm in those tight spots and all I'm holding is a UWS with no Monster to equip it to or if I'm holding a Dark Hole and there's no Monsters on the Field but the Opponent has a Monster Reborn I can snatch up and use. So it really depend on your taste and if you can find the room in your deck for it, but imagine using it to use a Pot Of Greed... 2 for 2, that's never a bad idea.

ArtWork: 3.5 - Ok, I know that's Dark Magician, but I'm still not sure who the other person is. It is a pretty cool looking though, and the original Secret Rare version looks even cooler. |

Well, I personally am a fan of the card, and run it in my deck. I find it quite handy, especially late game. Stuck with a useless late game card, just utilize your opponents instead. Otherwise you could just utilize it to use better versions of cards that your opponent may have. Pot of greed instead of Graceful Charity, Monster Reborn instead of Premature Burial, Delinquent Duo instead of Confiscation. I do understand that this card is a tad situational, but I’ve haven’t had it let me down yet.

Today's COTD is one of the poster ultra rares for
Magician's force, known as double spell. Frankly, I
don't see how this card should even get any special
attention...
In certain
situations, double spell can save you from losing.
After all, what could be better than using your
opponent's pot of greed, raigeki, dark hole, change
of heart, etc? Using a magic card in your deck that
doesn't rely on your opponent. This spell effect may
SOUND good, but remember that in addition to playing
this card, you also need another spell card to
discard to this effect. That leaves you with a very
situation spell to have in your deck. It would suck
to draw this when you're topdecking....there's
better spell cards out there...
Constructed: 2.5/5
Limited: 4/5
In limited, this card
is a savior. Hand management isn't going to be much
of a concern when you're playing in the draft
format. Stealing an oppponent's starter deck dark
hole or monster reborn for your own is obviously
going to turn the game to your favor. |
