Wednesday - Skilled White Magician
Light/4/1700/1900
[Spellcaster/Effect]
Effect: Each time you or your opponent activates 1 Spell Card, put 1 Spell Counter on this card (max. 3). You can Special Summon 1 "Buster Blader" from your hand, deck, or Graveyard in face-up Attack or Defense Position by offering this monster with 3 Spell Counters as a Tribute during your Main Phase.
A hundred times inferior to Skilled Dark Magician. Buster Blader isn't a playable Monster. Period. Skilled White Magician doesn't even have the basic 1900 ATK that would otherwise make it playable as a generic attacker. Casual play only.
In Sealed, it's still very strong compared to the other options you have. Definitely play it if it's available.

Skilled White Magician
MFC-064-SuperRare
Light/Spellcaster4/1700/1900

You can Special Summon 1 "Buster Blader" from your hand, deck, or Graveyard in face-up Attack or Defense Position by offering this monster with 3 Spell Counters as a Tribute during your Main Phase.
Pros:
Self producing Spell Counters - You can use SWM & SDM with Anti-Spell, Miracle Restoring, Mega Ton Magical Cannon, Armor Exe.
Cons:
1700 ATK doesn't last long in Tournament play.
Unsearchable by anything.
Combos:
Apprentice Magician, Magical Plant Mandragola, and Pitch-Black Power Stone, Gather Your Mind.
Notes:
Well, if you read yesterdays review for Skilled Dark Magician, there isn't much of a difference between the two except that SDM has 1900/1700 and Summons Dark Magician where as SWM has 1700/1900 and Summons Buster Blader. So SWM isn't as playable as SDM because of the lower stats, but both of these guys are keys for a good Paladin Deck, and SWM can semi-work in a Warrior or Anti-Dragon Deck if you really want to get Buster Blader on the Field that bad.
As I stated in the "pros", SWM like some other Monsters that self-produce Spell Counters (SDM, RML, M.Marionette) when Spell are activated can also be used with "Spell Removing" Effect cards like Anti-Spell, Miracle Restoring, Mega Ton Magical Cannon and Armor Exe. As far as I know there aren't any more cards involving Spell Counters coming out anytime soon, so Spell Counter Decks won't really get pushed or supported. It still can be fun with a couple of tricks and some good timing, but at the moment SWM will probably just be used for getting Buster Blader and Dark Paladin out, and with Buster Blader being a Tin-Variant Card now and with all the MFC Buster involvement cards Skilled White Magician might see a bit of play, but not in a wide variety of deck types/themes.
Ratings:
Casual: 3.0
Tourney: 2.5
ArtWork: 3.0 - He's another one of the new cards that have the Spell Counter symbols attached to them somewhere. He looks something like a bodybuilder priest or a magical bodyguard, and I think the colors and effect for the background is extremely trippy and subtle at the same time. |

Skilled White Magician is Skilled Dark Magician's inferior brother.
Let's start with what is good about the card. 1900 DEF makes it hard to get past but the real power is the ability to Special Summon Buster Blader when you have 3 Spell Counters on it. Buster Blader has never been particularly useful because of the 2 Tribute requirement but this monster certainly makes it easier.
Unfortunately, Skilled White Magician only has 1700 ATK which means you're not likely to summon it in Attack Position to begin with unless you can protect it. You will probably Set this monster which means it won't be getting any Spell Counters until your opponent attacks it and makes it go face-up.
The biggest problem with this and Skilled Dark Magician is that as soon as your opponent sees either of these enter play, he/she will make it priority to destroy these monsters. If you try to speed up the process by using up all of your Spell Cards to get the Spell Counters faster, you're not doing yourself any favors. All you're doing is setting yourself up for a Yata-Lock.
Skilled White Magician isn't a bad stalling card with its high DEF but it will be a rare occasion when you'll actually be able to summon Buster Blader. This card isn't that useful. You're better off using Fusion Substitutes in a Dark Paladin deck.
