Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier
When this card attacks with an ATK that is higher
than the DEF of your opponent’s Defense Position
monster, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to
your opponent’s Life Points.
We continue GK week with the Spear Soldier. This
monster has a Spear Dragon like effect without the bad
effect of switching to defense. This monster is great
for attacking face down monsters, almost guaranteeing
damage every time. It's also great for taking out the
popular Spear Dragons, and GAFs, while doing heavy
damage to Spirit Reapers. And with Necrovalley on the
field, it has a high attack of 2000 for a level 4
monster, being able to take out most other level 4
monsters. With a regular attack of 1500, this monster
is basically the staple of your main attacking force
along with GK Assailant, as those 2 have the highest
attack for a GK that's level 4 or below.
In a GK deck, I'd give this a 4.5/5. It's basically a
staple in a GK deck as it has the highest attack for a
level 4 gravekeeper. The only possible reason you
wouldn't use this in a GK deck is if you were doing a
burn variant of a GK deck, but even then, this is
extremely useful. |

Gravekeeper’s Spear Soldier/Spearman:
PGD-062-Short Print
Dark/Spellcaster/4/1500/1000
Effect: When this card attacks with an ATK that is
higher than the DEF of your opponent’s Defense
Position monster, inflict the difference as Battle
Damage to your opponent’s Life Points.
Trample, Trample, Trample, that's what Spear Soldier
does best, and with Necrovalley on the field he's a
2000 ATK Trampler, so he can easily take down any
unboosted 1800-1900 ATK monsters. Best yet with allot
of Spirit Reapers going around and those nice moments
when Goblin Attack Force and Spear Dragon are switched
to defense position, GK-Spear can do some wicked
damage.
This card is a Short-Print or Super-Short-Print so he
is a bit hard to find but once you have him he can be
quickly pulled from the deck via Sangan, WotBF and
GK-Spy, or even revived from the Graveyard with
GK-Chiefs effect. This and GK-Assailant are probably
going to be the main attackers for a Gravekeeper's
Deck next to GK-Chief of course, but you can have
GK-Assailant attack one monster and switch the
position of another monster for GK-Spear to trample
on, it's also a good ways to take out a Lily since she
can't boost her Def.
I'd love to say more about this card, but he's pretty
self-explanatory, he's a 1500-2000 ATK monster with
(Fairy) Meteor Crush built in. With all the low
defense monster out like Swarm of Locusts, Sinister
Serpent, Spirit Reaper, Marauding Captain, GAF, Spear
Dragon, Etc, and not having any side-effects like
changing position after battle phase, this monster
will do allot of wear and tear on opponents when it
hits the field.
Also you can help "cheat" his effect by using Book Of
Moon to switch a high ATK/low DEF monster to defense
for a trample attack, besides that I can't think of
any tricks with him yet. I also don't own one yet so I
haven't tried him out, but I have already seen him
pop-up ALLOT at tournaments even in non-Gravekeeper's
Decks, so I'm sure he will be mighty popular for a
while now.

ArtWork: 3.5 - I love the inscriptions in the
background of all the Gravekeeper's, and they all have
a slightly different colored glow around them, Spears
being a bright yellow is kinda weird but he still
looks cool. |

Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier, 9/10/03:
Spear Soldier's a really nice card because of its
trample effect. We badly need more tramplers in the
English game. And with Necrovalley this becomes a
2000-ATK monster. 2000-ATK trampler pushes it over
Spear Dragon completely. With equips it could become
dangerous... especially against those puny little
scapegoats.
Additionally, it's a Gravekeeper, so you can search
for it with Gravekeeper's Spy, revive it with
Gravekeeper's Chief, and all those other goodies. It's
Dark, so it can be searched by Mystic Tomato. Trampler
also means it can trigger cards like Robbin' Goblin
for added support.
Er..
Not much else to say... it's a great card with
Necrovalley, and only half-good without.

Wednesday 09/10/03: Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier
4/1500/1000
Dark/Spellcaster
PGD-062
When this card attacks with an ATK that is higher than
the DEF of your opponent's Defense Position monster,
inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your
opponent's Life Points.
Another trample monster... Oh what fun!
Joining the ranks of Airknight Parshath, Spear Dragon
and Mad Sword Beast is Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier.
This monster is useable outside of a Gravekeeper deck.
The fact that his ATK is 1500 and not 1600 or 1700 is
what makes him so dangerous, particularly when used in
a deck full of Mystic Tomatoes and Don Zaloogs. I've
found that most Hand Disruption decks use a lot of
Mystic Tomatoes so when you have this monster, along
with all of your own Mystic Tomatoes, when you go head
to head and suicide your Tomatoes against each other,
special summon Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier instead of
another Tomato and you'll stop your opponent dead in
his tracks.
Of course his effect is always fun to use against
Spirit Reaper and other annoying stallers like
Scapegoat. Now, when you have Necrovalley on the
field, this monster is a killing machine and with the
ease with which Gravekeeper decks summon monsters,
your opponent won't be able to defend against you.
While Necrovalley is this monster's greatest strength,
it's also its greatest weakness because it gets run
over pretty easily without it.
This is a pretty deadly card. Trample effect with no
drawbacks, can be brought out with Witch, Sangan,
Mystic Tomato and Gravekeeper's Spy and gets a 500 ATK/DEF
bonus from Necrovalley. This is a pretty strong card
overall.

Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier
PGD-062---Short Print
Dark/Spellcaster/4 stars/ATK 1500/DEF 1000
Effect: When this card attacks with an ATK that is
higher than the DEF of your opponent's Defense
Position monster, inflict the difference as Battle
Damage to your opponent's Life Points
Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier.. Could be one of the
better Gravekeepers. in my opinion. Has a pretty nice
Trample Effect, though it is pretty much the lesser
Trample Monster of the game, and also of the current
Japanese game. Still, any Monster in DEF mode that
this Monster might attack isn't likely to have over
1400 DEF, so you're likely to do at least some damage
with this Monster out on the Field, whether the
opponent's Monsters be in ATK or DEF position.
This Monster obviously works well with Necrovalley.
Because with it, you'd have a Monster out on the Field
with 2000 ATK strength and a Trample Effect. That's
pretty darn powerful indeed.
This Monster can be searched out by them all (Except
Pyramid Turtle).. The Witch, Sangan, and the Tomato.
That's a pretty nice advantage it has over other
Monsters, which gives the Spear Soldier a bit more
speed in your deck.
I don't have too much else to say about the Spear
Soldier, myself. It's a decent Monster that can be
pretty good at times and in certain situations.
Trample Effects are always nice, though.
