Gravekeeper's Assailant
You can activate this card’s effect only when
“Necrovalley” is active on the field. When this card
attacks, you can change the battle position of 1
face-up monster on your opponent’s side of the field.
This, in my opinion, could be the best gravekeeper
there is. The only hindrince is that Necrovalley must
be on the field and active on the field. And when
necrovalley is out, this is one powerful monster. The
effect is what makes is so good, allowing it to take
out Jinzos, GAFs, almost basically any of the popular
monsters right now.
But not only can it take out offensive monsters, it
can take out those defensive monsters as well. If
there is a tough defensive monster on the opponent's
side of the field, just switch it to attack mode when
you attack and you'll probably deal a lot of damage. I
especially enjoy pounding scapegoats and Spirit
Reapers with this. With Spirit Reapers, I can switch
it into attack mode, and attack it with all my
monsters to do a massive amount of damage.
With the highest attack among level 4- gravekeepers,
you'll be using this card anyway in gravekeeper decks,
so you shouldn't even be debating over whether to
include it. This card is so versatile, it's just sick.
I'd give this card a 4.5/5 in a GK deck. Like I said,
this card requires Necrovalley to reach its full
potential, so your deck better be able to get the
Necrovalley out fast, or this becomes one of the worst
gravekeepers. |

Friday:
Gravekeeper's Assailant/Assassin:
PGD-067-Common
Dark/Spellcaster/4/1500/1500
Effect: You can activate this card's effect only when
"Necrovalley" is active on the field. When this card
attacks, you can change the battle position of 1
face-up monster on your opponent's side of the field.
This is the only Gravekeeper beside GK-Chief that
requires Necrovalley on the field for its effect to
work, and having it active GK-Assailant becomes a Lv.4
2000/2000 monster that can pull a Switch & Ram attack
on Jinzo and others with ease. Not only is this effect
for targeting good against the actual monster
GK-Assailant is attacking, but if he can take down a
monster anyways you can use the effect on another
monster on the opponents field for GK-Spear Soldier to
take down and do some damage.
With all the low ATK monsters that people like to
defend with, week flip-effect monsters and high ATK
and low DEF monsters like GAF, Spear Dragon, Jinzo,
Lily, Gemini Elf and Summoned Skull going around in
tourneys, being able to switch monsters to their
weaker position to be destroyed easier can be quite a
valuable asset. I personally use Banisher and Jowgen
in my deck and having them switched to ATK position to
be attacked can really suck, so I can see how powerful
this monster can be, but with it requiring Necrovalley
for its effect is it's main weakness. So if you are
planning on playing a Gravekeeper's Deck, 3x
Necrovalleys and maybe a Magic Reflector or 2 may come
in handy so you don't get stuck in a rut.
Not much else I can say here, this monster is a nice
Tech card but ONLY works in Necro/Gravekeeper Decks,
so unless you're going to run Necrovalley in a regular
Beatdown I wouldn't recommend putting this card in
other decks.

ArtWork: 3.5 - Dark, shrouded, Mysterious, brandishing
a nice looking dagger and has a purple glow emitting
around his body, this is the best looking GK IMO. |

Gravekeeper's Assailant, 9/12/03:
Ah, my favorite Gravekeeper. This card has some
incredible destructive power. Look at the list of
defenses for useful monsters I put in my other
reviews. Jinzo 1500. Ha Des 1600. Airknight 1400.
Kycoo 700. Spear Dragon 0. With a Necrovalley,
Gravekeeper's Assailant destroys all of them (yes, its
battle position-switching ability activates when the
attack is declared, so you attack them in face-up
defense). And with Fairy Meteor Crush or Big Bang Shot
on it, this card becomes absolutely deadly. The only
bad thing about its effect is that it requires
Necrovalley. Otherwise, this card would be great for
use in any deck.
Aside from that, it's an incredibly searchable card.
Witch, sangan, mystic tomato, Gravekeeper's Spy... it
seems to be just as searchable as Don Zaloog. It's too
bad its ATK is just barely high enough to be stopped
by MoP.
As well as killing strong ATK-mode monsters, it's also
good against weak DEF-mode monsters. Say you attack a
f/d Mystical Elf with a La Jinn. It's face-up now.
Then you use GK Assailant to switch Elf to attack mode
and do 1200 damage to your opponent's LP (not to
mention actually get rid of the Elf). Nice.
All in all, I'd say that this is a well-balanced
monster for a Gravekeeper deck (wow, all of my
paragraphs started with "a" today o.O this review
brought to you by the letter A). Useless without
Necrovalley, though. That's the problem.

Friday 09/12/03: Gravekeeper's Assailant
4/1500/1500
Dark/Spellcaster
PGD-067
You can activate this card's effect only when
"Necrovalley" is active on the field. When this card
attacks, you can change the battle position of 1
face-up monster on your opponent's side of the field.
This is probably the best Gravekeeper purely for it's
killing power.
Well, without Necrovalley on the field, this card is
junk. Let's leave it at that. You can still retrieve
it with Mystic Tomato but that's not saying much.
However, with Necrovalley on the field, this is one of
the best forms of monster removal. Is there a pesky
Spirit Reaper in the way? Use Assailant's effect to
destroy Spirit Reaper then attack. Jinzo? No problem,
switch it to defense before you attack it. Blue-Eyes
White Dragon? Sorry, you're out of luck there. His
effect will allow you to either do LP damage or ensure
that you kill a monster. You don't have to change the
position of the monster you're attacking. You can
change a different one then attack something else.
Assailant's effect would be so much better if it
worked on facedown monsters since it would be able to
take care of most of those re-flip monsters like
Guardian Sphinx. Oh well, enough crying. This card is
useless without Necrovalley so it is totally
unplayable outside of a Gravekeeper deck. It's also
one of the last things you want to draw while you're
waiting to get a Necrovalley. The only saving grace in
this situation is the 1500 DEF. Don Zaloogs and other
nasty monsters like that can't get past him, with or
without Necrovalley.
Gravekeeper's Assailant has an excellent effect but it
strictly for Gravekeeper decks. Use him and I'm sure
you'll learn to love his effect.
